This is a fairly specialized tool, but if you need a gauss meter then you probably already know exactly why. A meter like this is useful for checking magnetic field strength, comparing magnets, looking for field drop-off with distance, checking equipment around motors or solenoids, or doing general electronics, lab, or quality-control work where guessing by feel is not good enough. For that sort of use this seems like a solid tool. It is not something most people need around the house, but it fills a real niche and is much more useful than trying to improvise with a phone app or some vague magnetic detector. I like that it is rechargeable, has a separate transverse probe, and includes features like data logging and an alarm, since those are the sort of practical details that make it more useful on a bench or in the field. Overall this is a good choice if you need to actually measure magnetic fields instead of just detect that one exists. It is a specialized instrument, but it feels like a real tool for that job. It feels very well made, and comes in a nice storage case with good foam inserts.
