Q: How does uni compare to Blackwing's?

The "real" Blackwing was discontinued 20 years ago so the question is a little like, how does this souffle compare with one made by Escoffier? You can't get an Eberhard Blackwing anymore so the question is really moot. Mitsubishi Hi-Uni is probably better, since is it is the best in the world, but I've never used a real Blackwing so I can't say for sure.If you mean the "Blackwing" made by Palomino this is much better. Palomino was never a top-tier pencil maker. If someone like Faber Castell or Caran d'Ache had re-made the Blackwing, there might be some comparison, but the ones made today have the name and the funky eraser (and a whole lot of chutzpah) and nothing else. BUT the Blackwing was not an HB pencil. It was a 2B pencil, two grades softer and darker than HB (aka "#2"). So if you are looking for a "half the pressure twice the speed" pencil you should buy the Mitsubishi Hi Uni B or 2B.

Q: Do these come pre-sharpened?

They do not come pre-sharpened.

Q: is there a "made in Japan" somewhere on the pencil or box? I know the name sounds Japanese, but so do the Chinese ; ) (thank you!)

The box and pencils have "Japan" stamped into them unlike some other Mitsubishi pencils.

Q: Do these work on #2 Pencil scantrons?

Although (full disclosure) I haven't tried them with a scantron, the "HB" grade of these pencils is considered generally equivalent to "#2". There is no actual consistent third party standard (one maker's #2 doesn't need to perfectly match another #2) so using these is no riskier than using any other #2 pencil you haven't specifically tested. Note, however, that these don't have eraser tips; you'd want an eraser, too, in case you change your mind or mark the wrong bubble! Since just taking a scantron test is such light, simple usage, I'd consider using something cheaper with an attached eraser if you're just buying for test-taking.
