Yes, they work on carpet and go for quite a distance

Would you recommend for 2 year old?

Yes I would recommend these. They are bright and bold, very well made. I have purchased a few toys from B and have been very happy with them as well as my daughters.

Is it compatible with the Toot toot track? Can they move on the track?

Hello ccchantal. The hard plastic pull back vehicles are not made to run on a track, but to be free form. Once pulled back , they may not take off in a straight line. This adds to the mystery and fun of the cars. Thank you.
