Back to Basics is a really good book
Back to Basics A Study of the Second Lebanon War and Operation Cast Lead was one of the textbooks that was recommended reading for a research project I was working on. The research topic was an analysis of smuggling tunnels for movement of both conditional and absolute contraband by both criminal and terrorist organizations.Prior to offering my comments regarding the quality of the textbook I must point out that my review is hindered by the fact that I was not trained by the military and thus much of the “basic” tactics and strategies were new to me. With that having been said I found the textbook to be really good. The concepts were explained and specific examples were provided. Because I read this book I was able to formulate the detailed questions I need to ask the experts for my research project. After reading the textbook I believe that United States major news networks such as Fox and CNN who already have several excellent ex-military leaders as commentators could really increase the general population – nonmilitary citizens such as myself – understanding of the Middle East wars if individuals such as Lieutenant Colonel Scott C. Farquhar were given ten minutes to explain specific concepts like he did in his book.

The Israeli Army in the 21st Century
This is an excellent collection of articles about various aspects of Israel's wars with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. The book is targeted at a professional military audience and for that reason, it may not be suitable for the casual reader. Pay attention to prices. The book is available as a free download from the U.S. Army's Combined Arms Center.
