Where can I buy GenTeal severe gel drops for a reasonable price?

Yeah, the eye Lube industry has really been socking to us the last several years... I use to buy Puralube on-line for about $2 a tube (40/case) in 2006-2008... then it was discontinued or scrapped by a pharma company that buried it in favor of the more profitable $10/tube varieties...My wife has used it all and also been using Restasis for the last 7 years or so...price that out! Anyway, I'm pretty disgusted with the whole GOUGING issues that pharma companies put us through on eye products...You might think the mark-up is 100% to be fair so they can all pay their bills...hell no..I think you're much closer if you guessed 1000%....actually 10,000%.

What is the difference between this one and the one made by Novartis? "Preservative-free in the eye?"

It is the same product, but with different packaging, as Alcon is a division of Novartis. Here are the ingredients for the product:Active Ingredients - Hypromellose 0.3%Inactive Ingredients - Carbopol 980; GenAqua (Sodium Perborate); Phosphonic Acid; Purified Water; Sodium Hydroxide; Sorbitol

Sounds dumb, but can this be used on a dog with occasional dry eye?

Please check with your vet. There are some eye issues with dogs that certain ingredients can make issues worse. And the dog needs to be identified as to why it has dry eye. Now dogs with bulging eyes typically have problems but it could be an autoimmune disease and you don’t want it to get where it has cataracts or other reasons for partial or full blindness. It can be coming from allergies, diabetes, thyroid etc for your dog and you don’t realize it. Have it identified by specialist. If the vet says this brand is fine okay, but then if you haven’t already, see a specialist. Some vets are like people docs, they might not be the sharpest tool in the box. Okay for vaccines, wormings, the occasional infection or sick tummy, etc. . But if they refer you to an emergency vet practice for surgeries, etc. then I would definitely see if they have a canine ophthalmologist on staff. And can do some imaging. If not find one for a preliminary. Occasional can turn to serious, chronic issue that turns to blindness. I unfortunately didn’t do this with my min. schnauzer. Just did OTC drops and ointment from my regular vet. He sorta off handed mentioned a canine ophthalmologist but then he just looked at them each visit and I took that to mean they were okay, said they were just dry. “Never know why” which turns out isn’t true at all. And It was going to be expensive and it didn’t sound like she had an issue. I didn’t realize for her nor my own eyes that things can really brew underneath from your system that affects your eyes too. . The vet really missed her issues, he put a steroid in them the last visit — within couple hours - I heard a thump and found her in a heap where she ran into the wall — she was totally blind in both eyes. I immediately rushed her back up there and he confirmed the issue. Said she would probably adjust — many do as long as you don’t change your house around and we talked about scent balls at the doorways to help her pick up where she was. My house was so small I don’t think it would have worked — probably better with the normal scents of the house. But we didn’t get to find out — a friend visited and she did her usually greeting, got turned around and before I could spit out she’s blind she was in the front yard. All confused and went running out into the street and a car barely missed her. It took us a few minutes to get her to just calm down and come to my voice. But then later I heard her crying in the night and couldn’t find her. She had gotten behind the commode and couldn’t get out. I got her out and put her on the behind me so I would know if she got up. She did peed in the bed. Then the next morning, she wouldn’t let me put her down and just peed on me so I had to make a diaper for her but she was just so scared — probably why she was peeing. She just cried and almost screamed if I started to put her down. I ended up calling the vet later that morning and told them what happened and I felt I needed to put her down and had her cremated and put in an use . I was so heartbroken and quite angry when I found it happened due to the steroid drops. They didn’t charge me and I asked why, that’s how I found out. He just mentioned it but never said who, or that there was something serious wrong besides dry eyes. If I had know, I would have found some way to take her. So if you have a dog with eye issues — try to found a dog ophthalmologist in your area to at least have them check them out initially and see what they say You don’t want to end up in my boat — it’s just very sad to have lost a sweet little friend who kept my grandmother company in the day and me and her at night. .

What is the difference between between the lubricant eye gel & the night time ointment? I had acoustic neuroma surgery some years ago.

The Night time ointment is gel only, has no other liquid in it. Used for severe dry eyes. The lubricant eye is gel plus liquid which I use in the morning, also for severe dry eyes.
