Huge, Hot, Herculean Composter
Set up alone, impossible. Set up with 2 people, 5 minutes. Yes, unimportant parts were partially broken (a portion of the round form at the top of the assembly spike - see photo), but not worth tossing more plastic into the landfill to get a replacement. I loaded the Thermo-Star Composter with 2 week to 4 week old compost and clippings from three other compost bins five days ago and have been adding garden and kitchen clippings to it since then. The compost in the Thermo-Star is already hot and decomposing nicely. I've been Intelligently composting for over 50 years. Some might call me lazy, because I've found my compost bins decompose without turning in 4-6 weeks - I do live in Santa Barbara where the daytime temperatures are usually between 65 and 85. A sales person at a Home Show once convinced my husband and me that we'd get compost in 2 weeks with a compost tumbler. We tried the pickle barrel vertical tumbler. It went anaerobic - those anaerobic bacteria are profusely smelly. It became impossibly heavy to move 6”. When we both attempted to turn it, it toppled over and was so heavy we dug out the un-composted, smelly mass and converted the tumbler to a bin by drilling hundreds of small holes in it. We then tried a horizontal tumbler, we discovered that they are so heavy with more than dry leaves in them that the crank, even with manual assist on the barrel, could not get it up and over the top to make a revolution. And the stench made us avoid going near it at the bottom of our small yard. The neighbors complained, so we gave it away to someone convinced of its use. I hope he had better luck than we did! So I went back to my tried and true method of filling the bin with layers of garden and kitchen waste as they arise, rinsing my kitchen bucket with water to pour over the brew, and leaving it alone to do its thing. I can already tell this bin will do better than the black rubber one I've been using for 35 years. A great investment in the planet and your health. BTW a 1 gallon stainless bucket without a lid is best in the kitchen. Keep it under the sink to easily toss peels into. Put it on sink or counter when preparing meals it’s large enough to hold meal prep and other additions, but not so large it begins to rot before you take it out.

Garbage.
After two years, I realize this is garbage. It is not UV resistant plastic. It has giant cracks along the sides. The top no longer holds on because all of the "pole" things are busted. We have two smaller composters that are older than this one and they have not had any of the damage that this one has. This one no longer can stand on its own from deteriorating so badly.

Cheaply made. Cheap brittle plastic.

Be prepared for missing parts.
I was really excited to get this composted. It came missing parts. Very disappointing.

Excellent Looking Product but Doesn't Work for Purpose. Fine Seller though.
A well designed and manufactured product. And they answer the phone and replace parts damaged in shipping with no problem and at no cost. Only problem is stuff doesn't decompose. I'd not recommend it.
