GarageBand X - How it Works: A new type of manual - the visual approach

I must say, I’m impressed by this book series.I’ve used GarageBand for basic projects but thought it was time to dive a little bit deeper with this new version of GarageBand. The book series was highly recommended to me by a friend, so I ordered the GarageBand, Logic Remote and Logic Pro X books (in case I wanted to upgrade right away). You can save money on Amazon by ordering a whole set. I admit I was not sure about ordering all three books considering the higher prices but reading through them, I can say, they are worth every penny. It makes learning really easy.The books have extreme attention to detail, and the more advanced sections are very well explained with graphics that are helpful. For the typical GarageBand, aka casual music producer, like me, all the necessary background information is provided to explain and understand the functionality. But still, it doesn’t feel like its dumbed down for the beginner. Every little detail is in this book and can assist a beginner or a person with experience.I’m sure I will master GarageBand with the help of this well written book. Note that the pdf files are cheaper, but call me old fashioned, I like the feel of a printed book. Highly recommend it.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I learn much more efficiently if I am ….... told not just how to do it, but also why.…. presented with clear visual aids, charts, graphs, that use color to highlight various features, which are then fully discussed with reference to the visuals…. offered the whole story about the development of audio recording, editing and mixing, (from reel-to-reel tape recorders to the latest DAWs)… able to choose what sections to read at different times depending on my purposesFor all these reasons I find that Edgar Rothermich’s manuals are the best I’ve ever seen.To make things even better you have a choice of buying his 300 page book for about $ 48.00 or download the whole text in PDF format for $15.00.I bought GarageBand X in a PDF format and I liked it so much that I also went ahead and bought the book so that I can write on the pages . When the time is right, I intend to get Logic Pro X as well.I would be dead in the water without this manual.

A useful reference text for intermediate to experienced GarageBand users, that is completely inappropriate for novice users. The author seems to feel that a "cookbook" approach to a first project is incorrect, well he's wrong. An in-depth recitation on how to resize various windows is out of place for someone who is already mystified by the application. He does a good job on explaining the basics of music recording, and then jumps wholeheartedly into the minutiae of the various aspects of the program. Who cares about file structures before having created workable project?

I have the Logic Pro X book from this “Graphically Enhanced Manuals” series. A much better way to learn an app than with the usual text-based books out there. Now a friend of mine started with the new GarageBand app and I thought this book would make a nice gift. I browsed through it when it arrived and it is written in the same visual style like the Logic book. My friend will be up to speed in no time and sure he will understand every aspect of GarageBand when he finishes this excellent book.

While unquestionably a well thought out guide to how each of the garageband controls operate, this was not the product i needed, but i will keep it as a terrific reference. still looking for the guide that will walk me through actually creating projects using loops, drummer, and the other song creation functions of GB 10.1+.

The service was five star. Great delivery. Easy to order. Book is a bit wordy, and the author's grammar is a bit off, but other than that, it is good.

Best manual on GarageBand. Worth the money.

This is the only book you can buy on the current version of GB for Mac and as such the author/publisher have priced it exorbitantly. On the whole, the book is a tedious trawl through the basic functions and features that you had intuitively and easily picked up anyway from using GB, without even being aware you were doing it. The only truly useful pages in the book where those about the Arrangement Marker and then cutting/moving/deleting those sections created within the Arrangement Marker. So I've basically spent £40 for about 5 useful pages and 200+ pages of waffle. I read through the waffle anyway to be sure I wasn't missing something; I wasn't! There are plenty of pretty good youtube tutorials and facebook groups that will help you with most of your GB problems, so save your money and don't buy this book. Finally - and annoyingly - the author completely ignores the Mastering possibilities of GB, which you will end up wanting to learn about sooner or later as you become more serious. I couldn't be more disappointed with this book : (

At first sight, this weighty manual looks like a comprehensive guide to Garageband. But after wading three-quarters of the way through it, I realised it had taught me nothing about how to use Garageband and more than I ever wanted to know about the size and shape of Apple's dialog boxes.It was like expecting a road test of a car and the salesman spending all his time talking about the door handles.The book is totally, absolutely useless. Go watch a YouTube video and you'll learn a lot more in 5 minutes than 2 weeks wading though this atrocious book. And don't get me going on the ridiculous price. Avoid and move on!

Ich besitze schon mehrere Bücher von dieser "Graphically Enhanced Manuals” Serie und bin einfach immer wieder erstaunt wie viel Spaß es machen kann ein Programm zu lernen wenn das Manual dazu richtig aufbereitet ist. Ich benutze zwar bereits Logic Pro X (eine weiter Buch Empfehlung aus dieser Serie), wollte jedoch bei GarageBand X auf Nummer Sicher gehen da ich es für Unterrichtszwecke benutze. Für jeden GarageBand Benutzer, dies ist das Manual das man haben muss.
