Review: Recommended to me by University Master Violinist - My daughter age 12, who has mastered the piano and flute decided her next instrument would be a violin.I researced to find the best possible Violinist in our area that offers lessons and I found a brilliant violinist from Romania. He suggested this book to me, as he preffered to use this specific book as the most valuable resource and guide to teaching beginners. My daughter has now been playing for 3 weeks, and even though I am fully aware her talent is partially responsible, the level at which she is playing after three weeks amazed me. Given all the factors above, I highly recommend this book as a teaching aid for violin. Review: The one, the only and still the greatest - To the parents of children undertaking the violin, be advised. The detractors that have reservations about the Suzuki method/book are missing two basic facts a) your child will learn how to play the violin (beautifully with some effort), and b) that this is really the only method that directly addresses the daunting task of teaching a string instrument to a child with pre-reading or early reading skills. Like it or not, agree with it or not, this is the method that your teacher will more probably than not adopt. It really does work; I have seen a string orchestra, taught by Suzuki, performing the Bach Concerto for 2 Violins in which none of the performers was over 12. The pieces are well known, part of the common repertoire, and you can play them with your child or accompany your child with the duet book that covers many pieces in Suzuki Violin School Volumes 1 and 2. Get the CD for sure if you do not play violin proficiently yourself, enlist the help of a qualified instructor and you are in for much joy listening to some beautiful music over the years. Suzuki books nicely ground your child in technique and offer very logical and natural progression with music both lyrical and rhythmic.
