Smoothest drag of any reel.
Smooooooooth bail operation. I only buy Shimano reels, because they are the best. I hate reels that require pressure, every time you turn crank to close bail.. I cast spoons repeatedly and the reel must be smooth. Shimano does not know how to make junk. All their reels are top notch. The drags are smooth, the price is right. This is perfect for 6 or 8lb line. Never mind customer service or warranties you will never need either. They could warranty these reels for 99 years, no one would ever have to use it. The company started in 1921, last year the sales topped 3.2 billion, because they strive to build the best. The reels are inexpensive because they aren't greedy. If I go to a store and they don't have Shimano I leave. Definitely 5 stars. The fish see you on the bank with a shiny gray Shimano reel they just give up and float to the top. In Kunshan China this is one of the largest plants in the world, with 33 subsidiaries. Fishing reels are only 19% of their business. I have never had one of their reels fail. A drop of oil every 25 years and your off for a great adventure.🙉 You could play a Yellow Fin Tuna on these reels if you have the patience.

a lot of reel for the buck
This is my first Shimano and very pleased so far. The bail and line retrieve have been flawless, landing fish is great and no issues to bring up. As to the few reviews I saw previously about the reverse / anti- reverse button causing issue, NO ISSUE. The rear drag adjustment knob on the rear is exactly what I was hoping for, this works great and is a real advantage. Before you head out to the water, set your drag to where you are comfortable with, trying to set the drag while you have your first fish on is not the time to do it . Just my thought. If you are looking for a rear knob adjustable drag reel, consider this Shimano, smooth and just an all around good reel.

Great Value. Good Reel. Not for Novice.
Out of five stars I would give it a 2.5 due to lacking versatility.PROs: Smooth. Handsome reel. Easy to operate. Light weight. Affordable. Nice reel. I love it.CON: If you are not used to it, you may accidentally release the anti-reverse lever from No Reverse to Reverse (it's at the point where you grip the rod). This happened to the first user resulting in a nasty tangled bird's nest. I ended up just cutting everything off and setting another rig --- so I swapped him for my ABU Garcia Pro Max - he went on to catch (between him and his girlfriend 10 Salmon = 27lbs of Salmon). Through the day, I caught many smaller trout with the Shimano, but twice I accidentally released the Reverse toggle. Didn't cause me any issues because I always pay attention to line tension, but if you are newer to fishing, this may cause a big problem. I won't loan this one to new anglers again because I don't want to spend time re-rigging for someone when I should be fishing.

Favorite spinning reel for the price point
I own several of these. They hold together really well. I bought this one for my sister in law for Christmas. Casts great and is a great value for the money.

Definitely not built for the long run
I like the size of it I like the fact that the line drag is in the rear I don't like the fact actual drag adjustment sucks and as of today the gear on the inside of it is starting to lock up and binding when reeling it in and making a funny rattling noise it most definitely is not no Penn or no Abu Garcia

Great reel. Smooth operation. What happened to the price?
The Sienna line are my favorite reels. I was thinking of buying another RE but the price has more than tripled in the last few months. I also have a Sienna FG model that I've had for years and it is also a great reel. I love the rear drag and easy pushbutton release of the spool on the RE but at more than triple the price I will be getting the FG. I'm still giving the RE five stars because it is a great reel.

Do Not Buy
This is terrible quality . the rear drag ceased after 3 uses. The seller did not respond, amazon declined to refund as a month had passed and Shimano basically said bad luck. it is a cheap quality unservicable reel and i would not waste my time or money on it or Shimano products. Obviously profits overide consumer satisfaction for this seller, amazon and shimano!

Worth the money!
I love the Shimano Reels. They’re super smooth and built to last. I’ve owned different Shimano reels for years now and I’ll continue to buy them. Can’t beat em for the money!
