The correct answer is CLEAR! As it comes out of the jar... it is snow white but it dries clear. Period. It has no color when dry. That said, like any clear coating that wets a surface it can darken the surface (like the way a concrete driveway or a piece of wood will darken when it gets wet) Example: If a rug back is gold in color it might appear a darker gold or golden grown... who knows. But since its on the underside of the carpet that doesn't show who cares as long as it works. Anyway, because it dries to form a rubberized type of film, the darker look you see when the product is applied may remain after it is dry in the same way a piece of raw wood furniture darkens .... and remains darker after it gets a coat of clear lacquer. **Q: Does this product work on rugs that are going to be placed on top of carpet? Will it keep it from slipping?** A: We used it on a rug that was on top of carpet, it did help a lot but it still will move. I plan to put more on it to see if that helps. It definitely helped but not 100% I would say 89% which isn't too bad. It is a high traveled area. **Q: I Make handmade rugs and I need somethin to lock the yarn on the back?** A: This should work for you.
