Thumbs up!
This is a wonderful product that lets you work hands-free on small items. The product is really rugged and well made. The base is all metal and quite substantial, and in normal operation, the lighting and magnifier attach solidly to the base by a strong magnet in the base of the magnifier unit. If you prefer, you don't have to use the base, and the magnifier unit can be clamped to a workbench, desktop, etc.The unit provides ample lighting through a series of LED lamps. The lighting is crisp and somewhat cool (bluish)...not sure I'd trust it for critical color tasks like retouching photographs, but it is just about the correct intensity for me. Still, I do find myself wishing there were an integrated dimmer for the LEDs so I could adjust the brightness depending on what I'm working on. Given that these are low power devices, I also wish there was a battery option as well as the included transformer. The neck is easy to adjust and gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of distance from the lens to whatever you're working on. The magnification is about perfect for me, and when you need it, there's an integrated high-power magnifier that lets you zoom in even further. Unlike some other units I've used, I don't find myself squinting or having trouble focusing, even after lots of use.Overall, a great product for the price - definitely worth a try.

Big enough to accommodate a PanaVise
This is a point worth making. I didn't see it mentioned in any of the reviews so far. There is plenty of room under the magnifier for a standard 300 series PanaVise with most of its heads. In fact the magnifier base is just slightly larger that the PanaVise 312 tray base mount. If you place the magnifier stand magnet in one corner of its flat base, the entire PanaVise sits on the base plate.I use this set-up for doing electronics assembly. The vise is a very important part of it. When I bought the magnifier, I was a bit concerned that it wouldn't have a long enough reach to get over the vise with a work piece in it. The happy news is that it all works quite well, and it's very stable ... no shaky magnifier, no wobbly holders. It is true that the lights are not terribly bright. I think this is a matter of expectations. They are as bright as can be expected for the cost given that they're designed to run from four AA cells. Carson could have used brighter LEDs, but the cost would have gone through the roof.As it is, this is a wonderful tool. I'm very please to have it.

A very nice light for the money
I am a fly tyer and found this to be a great light for the money. It seems well made. For about $72.00 it comes with the light, the steel plate, a bracket for attaching to the edge of a tabletop and an AC power cord. The unit takes four AA batteries (not included) which seem to last for a VERY long time. I gave it four stars because (1) I believe the manufacturer could make it brighter for the same money and (2) the battery door is cheaply made. Regarding the door, take care, be gentle and line things up without forcing when changing batteries and it should last. As for brightness, as an experiment, I have been able to tye with the room darkened, using just this light. Extended tying with in a dark room with just this light would be taxing on the old eyeballs. With other room lights on it is just fine. At the same time, its brightness pales in comparison to Harbor Freight's magnified fluorescent desk lamp, which is my primary home tying light. I use this as my portable light. It has seen weekly use since purchasing it February 5th, running about 2-3 hours per week and I am still on the same set of batteries. The optical lens is quite clear and swivels easily into place when needed. I have used lights on necks similar to this one which required constant adjusting because they would droop. So far there is no drooping/settling with this light - the light head stays at the height and position I place it in until I move it again.

High quality and great features!
WOW! This thing is really nice. Absolute top quality, far exceeding my expectations. The magnetic base is very handy for me. I have the large plate base on my desk, the clamp-on base at my work station and with the batteries, I can just grab it and mount it to stationary tools in my workshop. The magnet is incredibly strong. The LED lights are very bright, the neck is nice and stiff and stays where you put it and the optical quality of the lenses is great. This is a really nice product.

WEAK MAGNET
In the product video, it is shown to attach horizontally to the metal casing of a drill press. In my case, I tried this on a few different surfaces and it would not hold. Additionally, The product arrived with a rip in the feltbottom. At this price, you have to wonder about quality control. The optics were good. Too bad for its flawsI returned it.

Magnet concept is great. The metal plate is very heavy and provides sufficient stability. 2x magnification works just about perfect for seeing small components on a circuit board; the 4x zone of the magnifier is very small and has a narrow range of focus, so I find it nearly useless. The main problem I see is not really functional, but aesthetic. The rubber feet on the bottom of the metal plate are simple adhesive stick-on things, and they don't actually fit properly in some places. You can see in the photo that the plate has an indentation (why? not clear to me); the rubber feet are apparently supposed to go next to that, but there is insufficient room. I had to pull one off and re-stick it in place, so that the plate sat flat on the table. Then the rubber foot sticks out the side, which doesn't really look good. See the photo. Not a huge deal, but SO easy for Carson to do it correctly.

Great product and service
The light is perfect for my needs. I like the magnetic base because I can stick it to my magnetic end table when I'm working on the couch. Customer service is top notch, had a minor issue and it was dealt with immediately. Highly recommended

Great for portability and awkward locations
I use this as a hobby light. Fortunately, I have a metal computer case nearby so I can stick it easily. The magnet is very strong. As with all gooseneck devices, beyond a certain curvature, the neck will slowly revert back to a more natural position so you may not get the precise angle you want. However, it suits my purpose very well.Note, the covers near the lamp are a bit flimsy.

Great for Fly Tiers
A pleasure to use for fly tying with plenty of flexibility to set up anywhere (be sure to watch the demo video on Carson's website). Excellent build quality. Plug it into your 120v socket at home or use the AA battery option in the tent or cabin. Packs up easily for transport. The 2X magnification is just right for tying flies, even for my aging eyes, and leaves lots of clearance to manipulate tools and materials around the hook without the lens getting in the way. Even, clean, white LED lighting shows the true colours of your materials with no hot spots or shadows. My patterns improved right away. Thanks Carson, thanks Amazon.
