Although most of the information was helpful I really wanted information on how to use the colour swatches to perform a colour assessment. I have purchased a few books on the subject of colours & found there to be similar content.

Cheaper than a consultation.
The first part of the book focuses on determining which category you fall into. Some people will fall very easily into a category and others may find it more difficult.I found it fairly straight forward to determine my primary colouring which is soft but had difficulty in deciding whether I was cool or warm. I came to the conclusion that I was perhaps neutral and I could dip into cool and warm shades providing that I kept it soft and not really bright.I like the suggestions of using jewellery and scarves to tone down or brighten up "mistakes" that you have made. Pearls with a dark fabric do really soften the look. The rest of the book is devoted to what clothes and hairstyles suit particular shapes and I found this useful. I realise now why colour blocking is not a good look on me. The final section is about your specific style and gives examples. On the whole a good book and much cheaper than a consultation. My only wish is that there was a bit more help in deciding whether you were cool or warm when this is a secondary colouring. Perhaps they could sell the swatches that are the main determinants in whether a person is cool or warm. So if you were soft and wanted to determine whether you were cool or warm the four swatches in the colours that they suggest.I think that what comes out of this book is that it makes you more discerning about what you buy and if you are a bit of a sale junkie that cannot be a bad thing.

Disappointing: I am none the wiser
This book is far too simplistic to be able to help you make any significant changes to your wardrobe. I am obviously a 'light' but after hours in front of the mirror with various colours by my face, I am still clueless as to whether I am 'light and warm' or 'light and cool'.I agree with the other reviewer who said the colours for all the types seem very similar; there is a huge array and very few of them seem to go together. I could end up with a wardrobe that included pastel pink and deep turquoise; what I really desire is a simpler wardrobe with things that work well together. The book only gives few examples of colour combinations, and these only include 2 colours.None of the style categories applied to me, unless it's possible to be a combination of 'creative' and 'natural', though they seem opposites.I am quite intelligent, but the chapter on proportions and working out if I am 'short rise' or 'long rise' has me baffled. They don't explain the word 'rise' in the introductory chapter and then it appears on all the lists and charts; I am just supposed to know what that is! I am also expected to understand how to dress my shape from a short written list of intructions, which I find impossible.I like the fact that it gives alternatives to wearing black, or ways to make black work better for you if you feel compelled to wear it; I am trying to break a lifelong 'black habit'.If you want a nice, bright simple present to give to someone who it UTTERLY clueless about dress and colour, then this will do; if you actually want to make a change, as I do, you are going to need something else. I am thinking of Carol Tuttle's 'Dressing Your Truth' programme, but to be honest, was hoping to avoid spending the money right now, so bought this....serves me right!
