MECCANO Erector Super Construction 25-in-1 Motorized Building Set, Steam Education Toy, 638 Parts, for Ages 10+

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 9 year old nephew. I wanted him to have a fun but challenging gift that would educate and provide creative and challenging opportunities for him to make things with his dad or me, or on his own. I also wanted him to have something he wouldn't outgrow quickly.This erector set meets all of those objectives; I think it's the coolest gift I've ever gotten him. The quality of the set is very, very good. The steel pieces are relatively heavy, and the finished projects are VERY solid. I totally disagree with the few naysayers regarding the quality of this set; it is VERY well made.The documentation for the projects is also very clear. My nephew and I built the dune buggy project together over the course of a couple of days, and the schematics laid out exactly what pieces you needed, where they went, and in what order to assemble them. There is no text, but you don't need any because of the clarity of the schematics. He played with his finished dune buggy and made his own modifications to it throughout his spring break this year.If you're giving this as a gift to a younger child, you should consider that in some cases it really helps to have two sets of hands, but that of course is part of the fun . . building something together. There are a lot of pieces, some of them small, but the carrying case opens like a tool box and has plenty of little containers to hold the many different parts.Final note: I'm 53, and I'm seriously thinking about buying one of these sets for myself! Great tool for bonding with your favorite kid(s).

A really fantastic set! It has so many parts, the possible things to make are really endless. My son hasn't stopped building things since we got this kit. There are so many parts! You can make any number of things and never run out of creative ideas. As soon as he finishes one project he plays with it for a little while then takes it apart to start something new. The carrying case is sturdy and has compartments so you can keep all of your parts in one place, but still separated by type. There are instructions for building lots of cool creations, and you can find even more ideas by going online. There is a motor included as well that adds a new dimension to building toys. Erector Sets are a fun toy from my childhood and my husbands childhood, and it's really great to see our son enjoying one. This is a great update of a classic toy and stands up to the nostalgia I remember it with.

I actually purchased this for myself as a boy in his mid-20's, and I definitely don't regret it. I've always heard decent things about erector sets in the past, and I figured I'd give it a try. I purchased this originally just to build a few of the models in this set, but then I actually started implemented the steel/construction pieces from this set into making my own custom Arduino based robot. I just added things to a chassis I already had, and made it my own. If you're probably thinking of doing the same thing, definitely worth it. It's high quality parts and steel, they don't bend too easily. You can literally make anything out of them since each piece has holes all throughout them, making it easy to bolt things anywhere.Good set, the case itself is organized on the inside instead of other toys you buy these days where you buy them, and they're just bags of things all together. The case is the storage, so you won't need to purchase additional storage or worry about losing things. I can see where this product might be a little too advanced for some children if you're trying to build the models, but it's a great learning curve in a more technical aspect of building.Anyways, I definitely recommend it since you can implement these pieces into a ton of things outside of the actual models presented in the pictures (they're cool, but the idea of engineering your own works is a bit cooler).

Classic erector set fun. The lure of building with an erector set is that it is not easy. It teaches patience and gives kids valuable tools. They will become masters of putting together IKEA furniture and other frustrating items after hours upon hours of mastering this set. The sense of accomplishment is huge for the kid. Great set for girls who get bored with stereotypical girls toys. Not a great toy for 8-10 year olds unless Mom or Dad participates. Best for 11-12 year olds who can do it on their own. Don’t rush your kid into this toy. It is challenging and designed to make the kid struggle to get it right. That’s the fun!

I bought this Erector set because I saw my 6-year old son enjoying tinkering with nuts and bolts and building parts on his own. This set is great, but very complex. Overall my son and I have enjoyed working on the different models it can make -- it truly does build out at least 8-9 different items. The only thing disappointing about this set is the electric motor is far under powered to make the heavier items run. I first built the Race Car, and the motor could not come close to powering it at all. Nevertheless, it is serving as the building toy I wanted for my son and I. I still highly recommend it for parents with a lot of patience and children with a solid attention span. The included instructions are perfectly clear, but they are quite complex.

Just lie the set we would build when we were younger but better! Had electric motor to incorporate into builds. So much fun for kids and keeps them busy for hours! The instructions are very clear for younger children !
