Your 2 year old is going to love this book
There are two kinds of books my son really enjoys. He loves the "I spy" books, and he LOVES his teddy bear's first 1000 words. So much so, that our current copy is dog-eared, split, torn, and in pieces. Yet, he looks past all other books to read the shreds of what remains, and so I am getting him a new copy. It's not easy to find books that young kids will appreciate, and want to read more than a couple of times. This has been his go-to book for many naps and night times. We read to him every night, and this book gives him the opportunity to learn to identify visuals and also sound out the words while he looks at the word and image. It is a great sense of accomplishment when you ask 'Where is the cow?' and he can point to it. As he has progressed, you can ask not only 'where is the balloon?' but 'where is the YELLOW or ROUND balloon?'The book is broken down into page themes, with the key words surrounding the larger image. So for the seeker, you can point to the smaller image, and have the child locate it on the larger image. In all, this book is an excellent way to expand a child's vocabulary and get them into reading and recognition. Some of the words/objects may not be something you encounter in real life, so those can be tricky to explain, but it gives you the ability to find another book or go online to show them real images of what the book is showing.Truly a classic young readers book!

Have already bought two copies of this book
I have three children, and this is a book they have returned to again and again, both to have read to them and to look at on their own. The illustrations are bright and cheerful, with the different pages showing different pages and the things commonly found there (e.g., the store, at home, clothing, etc.). Our first copy fell apart when child #2 was still a toddler from near constant use and being slept on, sat on and so forth, so I purchased a second one and it remains a hit with the current toddler. (Incidentally, my oldest child, was so attached to this book that when I bought the new one, she started crying when she saw the bits of the old one in the recycling bin.)

learn to read
My daughter learned to read by the age of three with this book! (I guess we helped some too). It was a great tool.
