Beautiful representation of the solar system!!
Upon opening this paperweight, I was impressed. It is heavy and the quality is excellent. It has felt on the bottom to protect furniture, and it comes with a nice gift box too. The solar system looks so colorful and beautiful. I can’t stop looking at it on my desk. I will definitely be buying more of these for gifts, as it has been a real conversation starter!!

I need my space
I used my imagination with this one. I mounted it on a nice wood plaque and suspended a model of the Voyager space craft above it. Now THAT looks cool! For those interested, the planets are all on the floor of this orb. In other words, if you look at it from any side, you look through clear glass. But looking down on it you see the planets on a stary black background. Look from about a 45 degree angke and you still see the planets and syars but the glass magnifies the fartherest planets. Trust me, it looks good and you'll like it. Neptune is near the edge and a dark blue color. Uranus is there too. A blue green color. The weight alloows my model to hover safely above it. That was a good idea!

It's cool. The only issue is that if you pick up the calendar and move it, the little sliding part that selects the date tends to move on its own so you have to line it up again. However, it is easy to move which I prefer to something more difficult to move that would stay in place.

Cool
This item is actually really cool. It has all eight planets, but it's just that one of them is really dark. That's why people say it only has seven planets and that it wasn't well made, which it actually is well made.

Elegant, space-themed paperweight.
Nice paperweight. It came in a nice, high quality box. It has felt backing so it doesn't scratch surfaces and has a fun representation of the solar system. Planets are color coded to somewhat match their traditional properties (the Earth is blue and Mars is red). Includes Pluto! :) I don't have that many papers on my desk, but it is fun to gaze into and think about space.

2012 is incorrect
This is a fun desk item and very useful--a perpetual calendar. Heavy duty enough to be used as a paperweight. I paid less than $9 when I purchased and see that the price has gone up. I'm holding out for another price drop and will order more as gifts since it seems to be such a great hit with my colleagues. Unique, inexpensive stocking stuffers for the holidays.UPDATE--January 23, 2012Changed from 5 stars to 1 starI loved this calendar/paperweight until I hit 2012.The calendar shows January 1, 2012 beginning on Monday which began on Sunday so the calendar will be useless for this yr.2013 does begin on the correct date. This is a TERRIBLE ERROR that should have been caught by quality control. Glad I didn't order more.

Solar sytems lovers will be delighted
I love this paperweight! It is such a great mini replica of the solar system. It is beautiful and has a nice heavy weight.I didn't have any of the issues as the other reviewers - all of the planets are included with no paint issues, there are no cracks, etc. The gift box it came in was also high quality. It is definitely a nice gift for someone who likes astronomy.

Good Paper Weight but...
This Product serves it primary function well: a paper weight. This product has the protentional to be great. The years on the dial don't appear to have any thought to placement. For example: two spaces next to each other reads: "2020" over "2048", the space next to it "2064" over "2036." Really? I know there is a possibility of size restrictions but come on, the numbers should have the same basic orientation. For example a list of leap years is provided on Kikkerlands website, however why not just have the leap years printed in Red to match the months that are also printed in red? That way everything you need is in one unit, instead of having to look at two things. The same thing could be done with the months that have thirty days {Sep, Apr, Jun, & November}, just have them printed in another color that would match the color "30" on the dial on the bottom. But, this may be a non issue for most people, since they may remember which months only have thirty days. When I received mine the tab was bent down slightly and there were some scuff/ rust marks on it. It was packaged in a simple cardboard box with a baggy over the weight. There was nothing to protect it; so keep that in mind when ordering. All this said, the main reason I purchased this was to be a paperweight, something to keep my notebook from closing on itself, and it serves that purpose. The calendar is a plus but it could be made better by the items listed in the review.

Not made of glass.
It's a little cartoonish, but even so I hoped it would be made of glass, which it isn't, so the weight is lighter than it would have been if it were of glass.
