Unfortunately, all of the local clubs were shut down for the plandemic and all the online tests were booked out for a long time so I lost interest. Well, my father-in-law, who is an Amateur Extra, told me that he would be visiting the Huntsville Hamfest that was happening this past weekend near me. So, I re-read this book, watched the Ham Radio 2.0 Technician videos on YouTube and used the free HRE technician app and just about aced the test at the Hamfest. The day after I passed, I bought the Gordon West General book and it is just as thorough.The great thing about Gordon West’s books is that they rearrange the questions into logical groups. He offers explanations that the apps really don’t. It is written in a very casual, entertaining style with lots of pictures, illustrations and website references. I believe Ham Radio 2.0 even follows the book for both the technician and general test.I have the ARRL technician study guide and it is a very good reference book, but I prefer the Gordon West style of book. I am confident that with this book and the Ham Radio 2.0 general class on YouTube and the HRE app you will pass. With the general versions, I should have my general license by next month.The book helped me out so much, my wife decided to try for her Amateur license and has started reading through it!Buy this book, study hard, look for a club in your area that has opened back up, pass the test and then hit me up: KO4STQ. I may get a vanity callsign soon, so pass the test quick! haha ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Book provides proper test preparation by providing background info to understand test answers *by T***D on Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2019* This book initially describes ham radio for the technician, and then goes deeply into the Technician test. It doesn't just give you the test questions and answers (you can get this for free off the internet), but an explanation why these answers are correct. Even though some test questions can be figured out once its explained, some test questions are things you simply must memorize (e.g., radio bandwidths, certain frequencies, etc) because some things are arbitrarily specified by the FCC.The book also contains a supplementary CD to show examples of actual Ham Radio broadcasts.The book by itself is sufficient to help you pass the test; but in the book, it tries to advertise the audio CD that goes along with book. I didn't buy the CD, but its there if you are the type of person who can't learn unless you want a reassuring voice in conjunction with the book. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Reading *by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2019* This book is a little sad what with all the exclamation points and hyper-enthusiasm about the excitement of AMATURE RADIO!!! Hyperlinks in the book notwithstanding, it would appear the author hasn't heard about the internet and it's ability to connect the world over. Once you get into the questions things change for the better. Mr West does a first rate job leading you through the test questions, gives you the right answer, and then provides a brief explanation of why that answer is correct. And while there are a few exclamation points in the explanations, they are just the right length and have just the right amount of detail.
