The Tests Worked
My home is fed from a well with a remarkably clean aquifer that requires no treatment beyond slight pH adjustment, but I wanted to test the water just in case, especially my hot water tank. I used these to test the water in 4 different ways:-Cold water from the tap with an under sink nanoparticle filter - test was negative (yellow)-Cold water from fridge with in-line nanoparticle filter - test was negative (yellow)-Cold water from bathroom sink completely unfiltered - test was negative (yellow)-Hot water from bathroom sink - test was positive (green) but took 2 extra days (4 days total) for enough growth to test positiveThis confirmed my suspicion that my water heater tank or hot water lines are beginning to harbor small but detectible amounts of coliform bacteria due to temperatures favorable to their growth and water standing in the tank due to low usage so I will need to shock the system with temporarily higher temps or chlorine to hopefully eliminate them. The positive hot water test was helpful in that it made me feel more confident that the negative tests for the cold water lines were true negatives.

Works great but it's a good idea to wait an extra 12 hrs before reading the color
I was a tad leery buying these given a prior review had reported previously testing their water via a lab with positive coliform results and then had this test come back negative. Obviously, I don't want a false negative. I was in a similar situation: I already knew there was coliform detected in my well water via previous lab testing. And since I recently installed a UV filter, I needed to test its effectiveness. The time and cost of sending samples to a lab isn't ideal so I decided to give them a chance.I tested both straight out of the well (which I knew had coliform) and out of the tap (which had gone through UV filtration) as well as my RO/DI water for the heck of it. Indeed, after 48 hours, all three samples were yellow in color. Knowing that my home environment didn't quite meet the instruction's call for keeping samples between 68-90 degrees and also knowing that bacteria needs warmth/time to grow properly, I decided to give it another 24 hours. It took only 12 hours, however, for the well water sample to completely switch colors and is now showing positive results.Long story short, just beware that the temp requirements are there for a reason and if you can't quite meet them, give the samples more time. I know I'll personally be giving them an extra 12 hours regardless of temp just in case.

very affordable test kit
Our water source is influenced by ground water which requires frequent testing to make sure it is free of contaminants. While some local labs charge $40 to test water, these tests (6 per box) bring the cost down to only $6 per test.

Bacteria in water
These were easy to follow directions & appeared to be accurate in the colors to determine if there’s bacteria in the water

Works Great
Takes 48hrs to see the results but the distinct color difference of yellow and green makes it easy to read
