Q: Does this include the filter or is it just the case?

This is the set of filters encased together. It is like the one that comes with the Winix U450 unit.

Q: how do you wash the filter? It says it's washable but doesn't have much info

The 114290 is the replacement filter set for the models P450 and U450 air cleaners. The 114290 is a cassette that contains a Pre-Filter, an AOC Carbon Filter (advanced odor control), and a True-HEPA filter. The washable parts are the Pre-filter and the Carbon Filter. It is not recommended to wash the True-HEPA filter, (to identify which is the True HEPA Filter, it is the thickest of the three filters inside the cassette). To wash the Pre-Filter and the Carbon Filter simply rinse them under warm water in the sink. Allow them to dry completely before reinserting in the machine and turning the machine on. Thank you!

Q: Will this filter fit properly on a Winix B451?

According to info on the Winix website, "No." It indicates that the B451 takes the Winix 113250 Filter: $89 + change.

Q: Are the 5 stages of filtration worth the price above the 3-stage filter? I'm not sure what this one filters over and above that one.

We absolutely LOVE ours. My husband and i have had it for about two years and neither of us has been sick or even woken up stuffy. His allergies were terrible before. It reduces the amount of dust and pet hair that is left on the other surfaces. Odor reduction is definately noticable.
