Does this work with external drives? Picture shows external hard drives but the description says not to use external hard drives...

It works with usb 3.0 drives without a problem for me. It does have some issues with older usb 2.0 drives at times (but not always). I have this attached to my gaming laptop, which is windows based and not a Mac, so I can’t speak for performance with a Mac computer.
