Don't even try to assemble unless you have A LOT of patience.
I read somewhere that a good percentage of Europeans were conceived on an Ikea bed. Well, assembling this thing is birth control. You must have 2 people to do it. Make sure the second person isn't your spouse. This thing's assembly can ruin a marriage. The "instructions" are terrible. The orientation of various pieces is not clearly shown so you will probably end up trying several steps multiple times to get it right. Once you get the frame done next is the real killer, the mattress support. If you're like me you'll end up saying stuff like "I know the screw is cross threaded but it took me 10 minutes to get it that far and it's not going to come out so it's just fine."So why 3 starts instead of just one? Because once you do finally get it assembled it's as sturdy as tank. And just as pretty :)In closing, if you can find any other sturdy bed or get this one used and already assembled, buy it. If you want grounds for divorce, buy this one and have your wife help you build it.BTW, if you're thinking you can just find a video on Youtube to show you how to assemble it then good luck. There are several but none of the ones I found went in the same order as the instructions or went so fast that even with pausing they were useless.

smaller kids
Perfect for our needs, we have smaller twin boys that are 5 years old. A conventional bunk bed is to high off the ground and, leaves a good chance of injury if there is an accidental fall. This bed eliminates the potential for injury, by being closer to the ground.

but i got the loft bed which is pretty much the same
i didn't purchase the bunk bed, but i got the loft bed which is pretty much the same. It was a PIA to put together. the mesh stuff was actually the problem. I also highly recommend you glue the 2 part screws together prior to putting together cuz if you mess up and say have to unscrew it the whole piece will come out instead of just the top. Also you are going to need a empty room or room enough to tip it on its side. it does seem very sturdy but really they need to re think the mesh part. mainly the part under the mattress that is a PIA. you could probably forgo the whole mesh. it seems more for looks than functionality. took about 6 hours for me to put together.

Great Bunk Bed for Smaller Spaces - and sturdy too!
We bought this when our 2 1/2 year old transitioned from his crib. We had the IKEA Kura for our 5 year old and did put a twin foam mattress on the ground for the younger one, but the Kura would creak when the older one moved around on it so we wanted something sturdier. With the sloped ceilings in our older home and smaller room we were limited. I was thrilled to find the Tuffiing, especially at the price point. I'm not super fond of the industrial look but at least it's clean looking. It took my husband and father (for the safety of our marriage) about 4 hours to put together (they also had to disassemble the Kura). They did say the mesh part was the hardest thing to get on and it would have helped to have 3-4 people for that part. It's super sturdy once assembled, 6 inches taller than the Kura but an inch or two smaller in width and length, so very comparable in size. The top does need a 5 inch or less mattress. We went with a foam one we found on Amazon as the price was better than IKEA and purchased a similar one for the bottom bunk. I'm guessing a regular twin mattress would fit the bottom. Our boys have done great on it and the little one isn't rolling all around the bottom bunk like he did when it was a mattress on the floor under the Kura. Probably because it's a real big boy bed. Great fit for our needs! I could easily see this transitioning to one of our boys rooms for sleep overs it the day comes that they don't share a room anymore.
