A worthy sequel to the original masterwork.
Blade Runner 2049 Philip K. Dick penned the now classic Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep in 1968 which formed the basis of the immortal 1982 film Blade Runner. Ridley Scott directed that wonderful, emotionally and intellectually engaging and visually stunning film. In this sequel Quebec born director Denis Velleneuve steps with authority into Ridley Scott's big picture shoes. He ramrodded last year's successful and thoughtful Arrival. Scott can be found among the long list of producers, which will comfort those in the fan world worried about the fidelity to the original concept. When making a sequel to one of the most celebrated Science Fiction films of all time it helps to have $185,000,000 to spend on dazzling special effects and brand name actors. Harrison Ford returns as a now much older Rick Deckard with Ryan Gosling taking the role of the young detective, the Blade Runner, who tracks down rogue replicants. From the 2000 Remember the Titans to last year's La La Land and now Blade Runner 2049 Gosling may be the best actor of his generation. It does not stretch to truth to put him at least as a contender for that title. Former pro wrestler Dave Bautista, strong now in Hollywood after his roles in 2 Guardians of the Galaxy films, has a small if important place. Robin Wright, first seen as Princess Buttercup in The Princess Bride, appears as does Oscar winner Jared Leto. Leto has made a career of playing decidedly off beat characters, but each of his portrayals are totally unique, as is his portrayal here. Beautiful Cuban born Anna de Arma, fresh from her success in War Dogs, plays....spoiler, I won't say what her role is. Fans will want to watch for Edward James Olmos and Sean Young, both vets of the first film. The concepts first envisioned by author Philip K. Dick about the fundamental nature of humanity, who or what makes a human and the emerging technology that blurs the line make the original film and his continuation piece worth while to the thinkers among us. Some others of us just like the ride and the amazing look at a future society. Writer Hampton Fancher also penned the screenplay for the original Blade Runner. He has well practiced pro Michael Green as a teem mate in preparing the screenplay. Blade Runner 2049 will be with us forever. It contrasts in every respect with the tentative, small thought films we have seen for the last couple of months. This five saw blade film deals straight on with monumental concepts. The makers have minutely imagined the future society and created massive sets to bring the anti-utopian world to life for us. The actors across the board dug in and brought out performances well above the average of even the great and experienced thespians that they are. Bravo. This very long two hour and 40 minutes comes with a strong R rating. We have violence, salty language and very naked people, both sexes. R ratings mean for us to leave the kids at home.

Great example of cinema art
It is really a great example of cinema art. It has an atmosphere which catches you from the very first minutes and holds you all the length of the film. The plot is good, it takes a lot of time to think it over. I hope that such fate will not overtake our world.

This film was a letdown to me
My thought is that this is the film one gets when a director feels forced to make a sequel. For one, I think the original BLADE RUNNER stands alone as a good film. This new film did not enhance the original film. Yes, BLADE RUNNER 2049 did add time and length to the film. But, unfortunately, the added time and length of production did nothing for me. This is one of those DVDs I'm actually sorry I purchased.

Waste of 2 hours and 44 minutes
The original Bladerunner was the worst movie. Never understood why it was called a great hit. Well 2049 was even worse. Don’t waste your time or money. If you must see it wait till it comes to one of the movie channels.
