Why would otter box make a defender without the protective screen? I have used defender cases for years and just realized this case is screen less.

Because it is much better product without a plastic built in screen protector. Just slapp your own high quality screen protector you can get on amazon for around $5-$10 and you have a full protection while getting rid of that ugly plastic. Otterbox, if you are listening never go back to that crappy plastic.

My case cracked and belt clip broke ... warranty? purchased november 2018

I love the Otterbox Defender series but their customer service is horrible. They acknowledge design flaws but fail to extend their warranty to cover them. Plus, you will have to take the case off to locate a virtually invisible serial number that they require before talking to you. Plan on taking a photo of the S/N too because they will want you to forward it with other photos of the problem if they do decide your issue is covered.
