SoftStart Water Well Pump – Cuts inrush current 40% – For 0.5–1.5 HP 120V & 1–3.5 HP 240V submersible/deep well pumps – Generator & solar ready – ETL listed

My new WEN 6800 inverter generator couldn't start our 1hp 240v deep well pump with the rest of our house loads running. After I installed this SoftStarter, the well pump spins right up. Easy to install, and tech support quickly answered over the weekend. For anyone with a Littelfuse PumpSaver, wire this after your pumpsaver controller.

Configuration: 240V, 1.5Hp submersible well pump. Startup Current 64.6A, Running Current 10A. After Install: Startup Current dropped to 39.8A, Running Current no change (as expected) . Works perfectly (day 1, post install). Installation was pretty straight forward; However, it was a pain to get all the stranded wires into the connector wire clamp. I don't care for the little screw to secure the wire into the connector. After ~ 40minutes, all wires were inserted. NOTE: Use only 12/3 SJOOW cable (300V rating)as the connectors is not suitable for a cable with a higher voltage rating. This was not a 20minute install. It would be a 20 minute swap & replace but I hope that not indication of reliability. I would have given this a 5 star rating except for the connector. Why have a connector when every other aspect of your well pump is secured with a screw terminal & enclosed. The connectors are an unnecessary add on unless, this has to be replaced on a regular basis.

The soft start works great. It reduced the inrush current from 49.1 amps down to 26.3 amps, which is a 46.5% reduction. My solar inverter handles the 26.3 amp startup much better, and the system operates noticeably smoother now. Very satisfied with the performance overall. The only downside was the wiring connections. Fitting a 10 AWG cable was difficult because the small terminal clamps had to be removed for the solid copper wire to fit properly. The wire terminal screws are also very small, which made installation more challenging than expected.

It's really easy and straight forward to install. It definitely starts the pump up smoother. I have not tested it yet with a generator. I already had the SoftstartRV for a number of years so I was confident that this would do what it says it would do.

Using this on a 1 hp goulds j10 series well pump motor on 240vac. The motor is 10 years old and am hoping to squeeze more life out of it by using this SoftStarter. This, by no means, is a 20 minute install! The teeny -tiny set screws are a real pain in the arse. Not sure what kind of screw driver to use on them; ended up using a small philips. Really a poor choice of screw head; I'm still not sure what it is, but forced a small philips into it and applied a lot of pressure while twisting it. Used Wago's to connect the power lines and the ground wires. Turned the power back on and the SoftStarter worked as advertised. This was an easy install and it works as it’s supposed to. Cuts the power surge and the dimming of the lights a lot. Great product so far .
