I have no easy way to check
Will this device remove a cork from a bottle of wine? Yes, very efficiently. Is it a "real" Pulltap's? That's how it's inscribed. I have no easy way to check. If it is a "knockoff," it's a well made one. The hinges are strong; the two lips (whatever they are called) engage the wine bottle firmly and at the proper angle; and the corkscrew itself is made of hardened steel and is very sharp. Admittedly, I have never studied corkscrew technology and previously have picked up the cheapest available tool at the local liquor store; that said, this is by far the best corkscrew I've owned in a long life opening thousands of wine bottles, and I can't imagine how it could be better. It is strong, effective, compact, and (relatively) cheap. [Aside: The wide quality variation registered in some Amazon product reviews (like those for this corkscrew) raise in my mind the possibility that some low quality counterfeits escape the Amazon filters. For that reason, whereas I feel comfortable buying an item like this one, produced by 19th Century technology, that can easily be checked, I am wary of buying some Hitech mass produced items like memory chips for cameras.]

Pretty good wine tool, but not perfect for my use (admittedly very picky)
A good to very good waiter style tool. The good:long screw that's coated to reduce binding in hard corks and will go all the way through even long corksexcellent articulated, multi-position levereasy to grip handlemade with good quality materialsno "hot spots" in handThe not so good:thick screw can still bind in hard or long corks, not kind to older corksawkwardly short foil cutter that's more of a mini saw than a blade, almost impossible to get a cleanly cut capsule with

Very Nice and recommended
I like this a lot; very easy to use, lightweight, handy, nicely shaped, and has good leverage with two stages of cork removal. Great for travel, but check it, not to be taken in a carry-on as you never know what TSA will take. As seen in the photo it has a small foil cutting knife.A cheap-o wine opener was taken from me in Mexico (the type that forms a T and fits through the handle) that only had a very dull corkscrew. I was almost 'reported'. Also it happened with a 1" long glasses repair kit screwdriver; they warned me not to travel with it again. I did not question it but really!!?? The crokscrew was very dull and the screwdriver very, very tiny! A dull corkscrew could be a weapon or tiny screwdriver made for glasses? How about a pencil or pen? or cellphone and many other things? This is very nice, too nice to have taken from you. Great for home/party use, too.I recommend this, would buy again, and hope this helps someone.

Very nice tool
Works really well for a manual corkscrew.

Works well, but I suspect mine is defective
This is a pretty good waiter's corkscrew, but the foil cutter on mine is very loose and flops open. The opener itself is very solid and works great. The double hinge is the only way to go as it gives you a 2 step process to pull the cork, thus minimizing breakage, and maximizing leverage to make pulling a breeze.

The original
I've used knockoffs, and they work -- this just feels a bit better.
