Scary Sharp Results!
While the "turn your knife blade sharp side up on the counter" part was a little scary at first, this knife sharpener turns out VERY sharp knives! I hadn't realized that my old knife sharpener just wasn't cutting it anymore (sorry, maybe) until this was delivered to my door. I will certainly buy another one at that low price!Pros:• Compact• Comes in different styles to sharpen different tools (knives, scissors, cutting shears, etc)• Easy to use• Inexpensive• Excellent results• When blades eventually dull, just turn over to double the useful life!Cons:• Sharpening style (blade up) might take a bit of getting used to• Leaves a lot of metal shavings behind (wipe off your knife after sharpening)

Good for cheaper knives.
As mentioned this type of sharpener isn't something you'd use on really expensive knives (and if you're buying a $100+ knife, I'd hope you'd have the sense to just get a proper whetstone), but for those cheap knives or cheap-er knives this is great. I use the cheaper Victorinox chef knives since while the steel isn't the greatest, it's still decent and not so soft it can't hold an edge after being sharpened. Follow the instructions or you'll split your thumb in two; I didn't do it but I've had near misses because I wasn't paying enough attention.

great sharpener
my knives can now slice through a tomato as if it was butter! just a few strokes (the first few will be crunchy, stiff, and then it'll move along much smoother and faster). about 5 smooth & fast swipes - and you're ready to go. if you have really fine blades, like cold steel, cutco, henkel, etc, get a real whetstone/angle setup, but for your general every day kitchen knives, this is the tool that can't be beaten!

Very nice product
I was pretty skeptical based on the price and haven't had much luck with sharpeners in the past. But, this is a gem. Put a nice, sharp edge on my kitchen knives. I had a butcher knife with a smooth edge that would barely cut a tomato. After a few strokes from this sharpener it now slides right through.

Awesome little gadget that does the job!
This knife sharpener is the best. It's so simple to use and does the job every time. It also doesn't take up room on the counter and fits easily in any drawer. If you lose it (which I recently did), it doesn't break the band and I don't lose sleep over ordering another. I highly recommend this nifty sharpener.

Simply the best!
I've bought so many knife sharpeners in the past and none have been any good. This one is different though because it works really well and is super easy to use. At last I've got sharp knives again. Definitely recommend this item

Cheap, easy and highly effective!
Used a few methods to sharpen my kitchen knives including stones and tungsten cutters (as this device). Never had great results from tungsten cutters and using a stone just took too long and required a lot of set-up and a learning curve. Was almost going to spend around £100 on a abrasive belt hand held device, but after reading reviews, decided to give the AccuSharp a try - was only £12 so not a lot to lose.To my surprise this is the easiest and effective knife sharpener I have ever used. The first knife had a very dull edge so I had to draw the AccuSharp over the blade about 25 times. After this I could easily slice paper (as a trial) and it cut meat like a chef! Now every time I use the knife I give it 2 passes with the AccuSharp to maintain a perfect edge. OK...I know under a microscope it's not going to be perfect because the methos of sharpening is 'shearing action' which is not as good as micro fine abrasive wheels/belts/stones.....but does it matter....it would be difficult to tell the difference in use. Excellent product. Also, you can get double life out of it by swapping the blades round.

Great for cheap steel
First and foremost, you need to know WHY you're buying a sharpener. This sharpener, and others like it, are great for adding longevity to cheaper chef's knives made of low quality steel. They're also good for things like hunting knives or scissors that you're only going to use once in a great while. If you're a young adult who has recently moved out and has a cheap knife/knife set, this will probably be fantastic. However, if you have a $100 Chef's Knife, I urge you to strongly consider learning how to use a sharpening stone. I personally own an amazing, Japanese imported King 1000/6000 Grit Waterstone . It offers unparalleled control over your knife blade. If you're in the market for that, simply look up Sharpening Stone on amazon.ca. There are tons of options. YouTube how to sharpen on your own, and you're off to the races.•• The Test! ••I sharpened a cheap Chef's knife from Tomodachi. You might have seen them at Costco. They come as part of a $20, multicolor kit. Mine is piercing blue. Even though I have better knives, I can't bring myself to get rid of it. The problem is, it tends to dull very quickly, as its not made to last.Well, I resharpened it, which took about 2 minutes of scrutinizing, and it looks good as the day I bought it. I also tested it on my worst pair of scissors, and they once again arts and crafts like a champ.•• How to Sharpen ••YouTube "how to use AccuSharp." AccuSharp itself recommends flipping your blade upside down and running the AccuSharp over it. You'll know what I mean when you watch a single video.Be firm but controlled. Slippage is unlikely, but it's possible. I like how the AccuSharp has a simple guard for that sort of thing. If you're using enough pressure (and it doesn't take a ton) there will be tiny steel shards falling off, so I recommend picking an area that's clean and clear like an empty table or counter top. Repeat as many times as necessary (usually 5 or so to strip off all the nicks in the steel).•• Next, Hone Sweet Hone... wait, what's honing? ••You may have seen Chef Gordon Ramsay on TV "sharpening" his knives. He grabs a steel rod looking thing and slashes his knife up and down it with incredible speed and ferocity. In actuality, he's not sharpening his knife; he's honing it.It's like this. SHARPENING is stripping the steel layers off, exposing a sharper blade underneath. Cheaper blades require sharpening more often. You do this as often as necessary, but it's something like 1 month to 2 years before this is required (assuming you're honing consistently). HONING is fixing the little nicks and dents in the blade that accrue over time. To this end, you'll need a honing rod. Chefs tend to hone before every service, but you can do it as often as you'd like. You can find Honing Rods on Amazon.ca. Just type in honing rod or honing steel. You don't need an expensive one. You can typically find them for $12-15.•• Bottom Line ••This is a good, multi-purpose sharpener. For $15 bucks, it doesn't get much better. Keep in mind, tools like this will be good for 5-10 sharpens, which could last you years. If you want to sharpen more high end knives, consider a stone and honing steel.Happy slicing :) King 1000/6000 Grit Waterstone

Simple, and fool proof. Buy it for sharpening inexpensive knives
## SummaryDoes the job well. I've heard that it ruins knives though, so get a different sharpener if you're using expensive knives :)## Pros- Simple, and fool proof- Quick to sharpen. I sharpened like 4 items the day I got this, in minutes.## Cons- The items lose sharpness pretty soon- I've read in other reviews that this spoils the knife edge. Not suitable for expensive knives. Fortunately, I'm using inexpensive ones currently.
