Key United Methodist Beliefs

Back cover was torn in a crease from being poorly packaged
I'm a little disappointed. I purchased this as an I love and appreciate you mom gift and the back cover was bent and had a nice tear in a crease. My mom said it's ok and not to worry about it. I was expecting it to be delivered in maybe a box, but it came in a flimsy paper bag type thingy. My mom whom I love dearly said it's the thought that counts and not to worry about it. I just want to share my experience, but don't let it stop you from purchasing.

United Methodists Beliefs?
I purchased this book because I serve as the pastor of a small group of worshippers living at a senior apartment complex. Though not officially connected with the UM Church, the group was begun by a now extinct UM Church. Though I was raised in the UM Church, I am now associated with the Wesleyan Church; at the same time I want to be fair to the UM church that began this small ministry. The book is a bit light compared to most of the theology books I am familiar with - both those from a reformed perspective and the Wesleyan/Arminian world in which the UM Church finds itself. Key United Methodist Beliefs is written as much as a devotional as a text book. It introduces the reader to the historical theological foundations that have defined UM theology through the years. Each chapter includes a reading focusing on the topic at hand, a brief catechism of questions and answers, and a set of devotional questions related to the current topic.I found the book to be useful for my purpose of assisting in helping me to be familiar United Methodist thought. I appreciated having this small monograph available for reference and review.

A good overall sketch of orthodox Methodism
I haven't finished the book, but so far am impressed. It is composed well, easy to follow, written for the basic layperson, someone not intimately familiar w/ the Christian faith, much less Methodism/Wesleyan thought. As the title says, it is a book of "Key United Methodist Beliefs". It does not go into great depth, it is not a systematic theology. This is a good primer, a book for people new to the faith, new to United Methodism. I am not new to the faith nor to the church, so much of the book is reconfirmation of what I already know & believe. For those seeking deeper theological exercises, this book is lightweight, BUT it is overall a fine introduction to the Christian faith, Wesleyan perspective, United Methodism!

Good basic protestant beliefs with catechism and questions to study
good book with catechism included for each chapter/topic and discussion question. my church studied this as a church - sermon topic matched weekly chapter and blog with 1-2 posts each week and all Sunday School classes and small groups discussed together. we finish up this Sunday. This fits a lot of basic Christianity IMO though each denomination has different opinions in some areas esp salvation and baptism.

A Book I've Been Seeking
I am so glad that Dr. Abraham has gifted this pithy, no-nonsense approach to grasping the Wesleyan approach to the Christian Faith. Wesleyan "Practical Divinity," while never mentioned in this book per se, seems certainly to be its aim and purpose. It is so approachable that I will begin using it immediately as a confirmation text, new member resource, and 1st book when someone asks me, as they often do, "What do Methodists believe? How are they different than other Christians?" This distilled and easily read book is a great primary answer to those questions.

Great book
This book is really solid theologically. I enjoyed reading it. The only reason it is not 5 stars is that it seems to be targeted toward a particular audience and is not user friendly for most laity, in my opinion.

Excellent Resource for UMC's
This is an excellent resource that explains key United Methodist Beliefs. The way it is structured makes it good for both reading and use in small groups. I highly recommend it, and will be using it in my churches.
