Farpoint Bahtinov Masks Are one of the best tools for manually focusing your telescope available to astrophotographers. In 2005, Pavel Bahtinov, a Russian amateur telescope maker and astronomer detailed a new way to easily focus your DSLR, CMOS or CCD camera for astrophotography by adding a mask that matches the diameter of your telescope.Bahtinov mask are a less expensive method of getting focus on objects in the night sky compared to a standard motor focuser. With the right mask and setup it's easy to get crystal clear focus on a star in less than 90 seconds. How it WorksThese mask will work equally as well on the end of a scope or on the end of a dew shield on top of that the mask itself does not need to be perfected centered on the scope this is due to the angle of the slits themselves. Select a bright star as your guiding object. Place the Bahtinov focusing mask on your telescope's lens and secure it into place using the rubber tabs. The slits in the mask design create a set of diffraction spikes on the star that will assist in the accuracy of your focus. It will appear on your screen or computer as an "X" with a line through the center (when in focus). The diffraction spike pattern from a bright star using a Bahtinov mask As you adjust the focuser of your telescope, the central spike will move in and out of the X-pattern. If you are using capture software be sure to compensate for the lag time between exposures on the screen, typically 4-5 seconds. The same process applies using Live view display on your DSLR camera. READ BEFORE YOU BUY
In order to even use this you need to buy a SEPARATE PRODUCT that it fits into. This is not mentioned ANYWHERE on the page as far as I can see. On it's own, it will not fit into a 52mm lens whatsoever.Do not buy this thinking it'll just slip into your camera lens. I wish the product page was more clear.

Not what I expected
I have a few other bahtinov masks and they all seem to do the trick with the three star flares you align. This one has 5 that radiate out from the star like the traditional 5 pointed star we’ve seen hundreds of times in our life. The lines are pretty thick on this compared to the larger size masks and I suspect this is what causes the issue. Worked ok but not pinpoint on the prime lenses I used with it. You may want to skip this one a d just set your lens to infinity and zoom in on your cameras display to see how sharp it is.

I do not know the one I received an exception, but...
At least the one I received did not fit my threaded filter as it was slightly too wide for 52mm filter. Pushed in but soon after it pops out and fall. Simply refused to stay in the filter. It will very clear I will lose it soon or later. I can not provide how useful for focusing as I returned it before using it. As it failed before use, I only give a single star.
