Depeche Mode: Devotional presents an early live performance by the passionate British rock band acclaimed for their stage presence and intensity. Twelve songs make up the video: "Higher Love," "World in My Eyes," "Walking in My Shoes," "Stripped," "Condemnation," "Judas," "I Feel You," "Never Let Me Down Again," "Rush," "In Your Room," "Personal Jesus," and "Enjoy the Silence." --Sarah Sloboda, All Movie Guide

I've got 37 years worth of material to enjoy now.
I'm a new convert to the cult of DM and this is their strongest live performance I've seen so far. Many vocalists find their voice and the lyrics 'lost' in the sound once out of a studio, but Gahan here is so strong as to be phenomenal. I only now wish I had discovered this band 37 years ago! But, then again, I've got 37 years worth of material to enjoy now... Only negative point: what on earth is the point of editing two songs (including one of my favourites - Halo) out of the show? Only to put them back in again as extras? (A similar thing occurred on the DVD release of "Pandemonium" (Pet Shop Boys) and I can only assume that there is some technical or legal reason for it as it otherwise seems pointless. Or maybe the director of the film simply doesn't like those particular songs?) Anyway, as I tend to digitise my DVDs, I guess I can edit the songs back into where they should be!Oh, and I really missed "Just Can't Get Enough". Not just because it's a fun way to close a performance, but because it is a lovely way to show how the band has evolved over many, many years of success.

Superb
Depeche mode at their peak great performance, Dave Gahan is a cross between Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison totally commands the stage and audience this was the last tour featuring Alan Wilder who was a major force within the band,it's a great document of a band at the height of their powers and popularity.

Excellent
I can sum this DVD up in a few words - Brilliant, Entertaining and stylish. This is the best live DVD that Depeche Mode have done. David Gahan's voice was spot-on and the man entertained!! A mention too for the gospel backing singers - they were great, really harminous alongside Martin Gore. The stage set up was really clever too, with Dave Gahan performing below the other members - really effective. My favourite tracks would have to be Condemnation, Personal Jesus and I feel You although they were all very good. I couldn't believe that this DVD was filmed in 1993 - it's just so up-to-date and fresh.

The right stuff
This performance is beautifully shot and edited bt Anton Corbijn, from the opening scenes of the band sillouetted against the stage curtains, right through to the closing encore. Dave Gahn and Martin Gore ae both in fine voice with some help from the soulfull backing singers and this is helped by some very impressive and imaginative stage visuals. But despite all this, it is the intellegent editing that makes it all work so beautifully. If you like Depeche Mode you really need to own this.

Best Band in the World!
I bought this DVD as it was recommended by friends. As a fan of Depeche Mode this DVD is a must for your collection. Not particularly my favourite era with regards to Dave's health but still an amazing part of their journey and historic performances.A double disc with extras.
