I was concerned in fitting this in an IKEA cabinet but it fit perfectly in their 24" cabinet with a few modifications First The space where the cabinet attaches to the ikea rail system Is right where the power is supposed to be. As we already ran the power we had to move the attachment point lower by drilling some new holes for the bracker and just attached it to the wall off the rail (IKEA provides hardware attach off rail) if we caught this earlier we would of just used a recessed outlet and had the power moved elsewhere. The second modification was having to drill new peg holes for the shelf the microwave would sit on as the standard holes left us with a 3/4 gap at the top. Third the screws to attache the microwave barley do not line up with the edges of the cabinet so we had to add a 1/4 shim for the screws to bite into. Make sure to pre drill the holes. You can see hole close it is to working in the picture And lastly this microwave is 5" shorter then IKEAs so you will need a 15" bottom drawer (or 10" and 5" or 3 5" drawers) vs the IKEA standard 10". If you did the customer drill hole a 15" will 100% fit. As far as the microwave we love not having to bend down to use it. Having no carousel make what you can put in the microwave much larger then a standard microwave. The only complaint is motorized close/open can be a little slow at times. I moved to a new home and bought another because we love it. A minor manufacturing glitch with a loose power connecter shouldn't have happened, but it's a great product. Now on our third home construction project, we bought another without hesitation. After heating something like a tureen of hot soup, one can safely lift it with both hands up to counter height *much* more safely than with a countertop or over-the-range microwave. Highly recommended for aging in place scenarios from a safety perspective alone, but more than worth it from a convenience standpoint. Sharp will not stand behind glass after 30 days. I have product 60 days and entire bottom cracked when wiping with a rag. Very poor design. I had older model and it had metal bottom with no problem. After 9 years it stopped working. This design is awful. **Q: How do you obtain service under the warranty? Do you call Sharp?Does the repairman come to your house? Is an extended warranty available, at what cost** A: Take a valium, and then ask the gods what did you do to deserve the mistreatment that you're about to receive.Sharp's customer service number is 800-237-4277 Good luck there. You'll need it.They may or may not know of an Authorized Servicer in your area. They couldn't find one in Denver - and they couldn't figure out that Denver has suburbs.There may or may not be an extended warranty available. Today, on the phone I was told that I could buy an extended warranty. (My unit lasted a week, but it had sat in a box while I waited for my slow kitchen remodel to get to it)Later I emailed onlinesupport@sharpsec.com In a timely reply I was told that "there is no way to purchase an extended warranty" I replied that the guy on the phone thought he could sell me one. To which the Sharp guy replied "I deeply apologize for the miscommunication. I was able to verify this IS possible. Please contact the Extended Warranty Department at 866-848-1144." The girl at that number guaranteed that I could not buy an extended warranty. So what did you do to deserve having to deal with Sharp service? **Q: How does the unit cook evenly without a carosel(sp)?** A: We have only had our unit for a few weeks, but have not had any issues with heating our food without a carousal. You can always stop the cooking midway through the time to rotate your pan if you are concerned about it. So far we have been pleased with our purchase and have not missed the carousal. **Q: What should the rough opening of the cabinets be ?** A: Sorry to be late. The various cooking options are easy to follow and match up perfectly with the results we have experienced. No more stretching upward and dragging out hot dishes from a microwave over a stovetop. Simply push Open, hum a few bars and then lift the bakeware up and onto a counter. See what you’re doing without danger of being burned. Also no danger of dropping and breaking hot dishes or the glass top on a stove. (I’ve seen that happen before.) No spills because of tipped hot dishes. What can I say? We love it.
