the final part of a great collection
This is Season 2, Volume 2 of "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" from the 1980's - an animated classic! It's the final instalment of a four-part box set. You get 6 DVD's, with 32 episodes. The outer case is attractive, with some colourful artwork. Inside the case is a pull-out folder on which the discs clip - and, again, the artwork is great. Included is an episode guide and 2 exclusive art cards. The DVD's feature lots of bonus material - including documentaries and character profiles. This is a deluxe collection. This show, which ran from 1983 to 1985, is fantastic! But, perhaps, you had to be there - as a child of the 80's - to appreciate this cartoon. While the animation itself has stood the test of time, aspects of the storytelling (e.g. the moral epilogues) may appear dated to some viewers. As an adult, I can identify that this was a show of its time: with two super-powers at loggerheads, one considered an evil empire and the other as a bastion of freedom. And so the USSR vs the USA becomes Skeletor vs He-Man ... But, of course, as a child such global politics was beyond me!This cartoon is all about fun, fantasy and action. The world of Eternia and its fantastic environments, coupled with the colourful and amazing characters, is so appealing that it easily captures the imagination. He-Man is a great super-hero, and Skeletor is such an enticing villain. The episodes of this show tend to focus on the battles between these enemies ... but there are plenty of other bad guys who try to give He-Man a challenge. The show has no real continuity - and the episodes can be watched in any order. Some episodes are not quite as good as others. But the best of this animated series is terrific. It defined the mid-1980's in terms of children's entertainment, and promoted a $billion toy industry ... the figures were the stuff of dreams!I've recently re-visited this series, and watched all the episodes. Today, I think they'll appeal to both the original fans (who are probably in their 40's) and to young kids (aged 4 to 8) ... There's still a lot of fun to be had with "Masters of the Universe". If you enjoy this box set, I recommend the other 3 sets - which complete the collection. The included episodes are those numbered 34-65 of season two, which are as follows:34.Hunt for He-Man35.The Greatest Show on Eternia36.Not so Blind37.Revenge is Never Sweet38.The Good Shall Survive39.The Secret of Grayskull40.No Job Too Small41.The Bitter Rose42.The Gambler43.Teela's Triumph44.Orko's New Friend45.The Problem with Power46.Double Trouble47.The Eternia Flower48.Happy Birthday Roboto49.Battle of the Dragons50.Time Doesn't Fly51.Here, There, Skeletors Everywhere52.Beauty and the Beast53.Orko's Return54.Visitors from Earth55.Monster on the Mountain56.The Magic Falls57.Search for a Son58.Mistaken Identity59.The Toy Maker60.Bargain with Evil61.Capture the Comet Keeper62.The Ancient Mirror of Avathar63.The Games64.To Save the Creatures65.The Cold Zone
