Defenders: The Best Defence: The Best Defense (The Defenders)

This book is terrible. the art is crap and it really has nothing to do with the Defenders. dont waste your money like i did.

“Defenders – The Best Defense” collects five one-shot issues which form a mini series featuring solo-stories of the four ‘original’ Defenders and a final team-up issue.The four individual issues are collected in this order – Hulk, Namor, Doctor Strange and the Silver Surfer, they are interconnected, and all lead into the team-up.The individual stories are up-to-the-minute in terms of continuity, with the Hulk in the middle of his search for whatever is possessing him, Namor clearly in the middle of his dispute with the Avengers (but more rational and “in character” than he is portrayed over there), and Surfer is straight out of his recent series with “Harold” and “Toomie” now firmly established as running gags.Doctor Strange however, is slightly out of continuity, being dead and all, as we discover in the Hulk story, and he has travelled back from the/a future (via a tribute to Steve Ditko) in order to undo something that the Defenders are about to do to save the Earth from a cosmic menace that in turn led to Steven’s “wrong future”.It all hangs together, despite different writers on each episode, due to the fact that these are all top writers, and maybe this is a try-out for either a new team book or new series for Namor and the Surfer.These are definitely the guys for the job, and the finale certainly gives the current Avengers a run for its money.PS: Namor (and his writer) have got a new Invaders series starting up – just the Surfer looking for a home, then.
