In 1958 a remarkable film called Windjammer was filmed, documenting the voyage of a traditional sailing ship on it's voyage from Norway to the Americas and the Caribbean and back. It had a stellar soundtrack composed by Morton Gould that was as epic as the film. The original soundtrack was never released, only a studio assembled LP. Now, you can have both the original soundtrack and the studio LP with some bonus material on this 2-CD set.

fast service, nice colorful booklet and much new music
Good to hear twice as much music: Original studio recording is beautiful stereo, new material is cleaned up acceptable mono from previously lost soundtrack tapes. Norwegian piano/orchestra concerto played by a cadet with Boston Pops orchestra is still missing (only on the DVD), so this soundtrack is not quite complete.

Soundtrack album disappointing
After waiting 55 years for a Windjammer soundtrack album, you'd think they'd get it right. Unfortunately, they didn't. It's not even in cronological order as most soundtracks coming out nowadays are. the album part, on disc 2, isn't even in stereo. The Flicker Alley video release is great, as they attempted to recreate the Cinerama projection with some degree of success. But the soundtrack release doesn't cut it. To hear, finally, the almost complete musical score by Morton Gould, is wonderful. But this album could have been so much better if they'd payed more attention to details. The New York sequence Tiger Rag is still missing, as is the Arthur Fiedler/Boston Pops Grieg Piano Concerto, which is the film's climax. the movie, presented in Cinerama in most major places, told the story of a sailing ship from Norway which traveled some 17,000 miles visiting ports in the Carabbean, New York City and Boston before returning home. The movie itself remains one of the best documentaries of its kind ever made and is on my list of my 100 favorite films of all time. Can't wait for the other Cinerama releases, two more scheduled soon. Hopefully, they'll be able to get all of them on DVD before too much longer.

Rarity but mostly "movie music"
I saw the movie in New York when it came out and have vivid memories of it--also saw the recent version--and remembered in particular the song "Kari waits for me." But most of it is "movie music," and it doesn't have the two musical highlights of the film by Pablo Casals and the Boston Pops respectively. So I'll probably copy Kari onto my Ipod and let it go at that.

A Happy Memory Now on CD
My parents and older siblings had seen Windjammer at the theater (this was a bit before my time), and the soundtrack was an album that got played a lot in our home when I was little. I grew up loving the music. I ended up with the album, but to have it on CD, with additional material, is a treat.

Rare Movie Soundtrack
I originally purchased this music as a vinyl lp in the late 50's. That recording went the way of many recordings I owned, into oblivion. I was happy to see this music available again and hear it for the first time again. Morton Gould has always been a favorite composer of mine and this music does not fail to thrill today.

Windjammer Score
Received the Windjammer CD today. I have listned to the recording numerous time. Outstanding! Thanks to all involved, especially for locating and processing the lost tapes. The Christian Radich still sails the seas today. so the music in this day and time applies to ship as it did in 1958. Thanks to Jack Shaindlin and all the members of the Cinemiracle Symphony Orchestra. The power of this score is enhanced further if you watch the Bluray relerase of the film. The best of Morton Gould.

A pot of Jammer!,
Last year I bought the DVD of this Cinemiracle epic, now comes the CD with all the music. As a lover of big "Road Show - Special Presentation" movies this is the perfect souvenir soundtrack to a remarkable film. I've had the original Philips LP, released in the 1950s for a while, although it only contains a small selection of the songs and music. This two disc CD includes the original LP together with an expanded, more complete score, plus an informative booklet. This release will probably only be of interest to those who fondly remember the film, real movie buffs or film students, but it's available at a very reasonable price at the moment; and scarcity tends to breed very high prices later!

SOUNDTRACK
I LIKE THIS CD BECAUSE OF THE ORCHESTRA THAT PLAYS IT AND PUTS IT OVER AS A SEA MOVIE SHOULD BE AND MAKES IT SOUND LIKE THE SHIP IS LEAVING PORT WITH FULL SAIL. I NOW AWAIT TO SEE THE MOVIE . SOUND IS VERY GOOD HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE ,

Wonderful. Stands very well on it's own
I can't understand why I never came across this piece much earlier. Wonderful. Stands very well on it's own.
