Just the size I was looking for.
This is just the size and shape casserole that I was looking for. Someone, in one of the other reviews said, that the working area was 7 x 7 inches. That represents the top opening area, while the bottom is even smaller. The casserole sides are angled, making the bottom area to be about 6 x 6 inches square. This is precisely the work area that I was looking for. I freeze my spaghetti sauce in plastic zipper baggies, and use them as needed. This casserole easily accommodates the frozen sauce after opening the bag, so I can heat it up in my microwave oven. Anything bigger than this casserole, or one that has a round shape, just does not work out properly. We have either overkill space, or trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I have looked for this size for quite a long time, and am very happy. Oh...while this item is definitely lighter that regular corning, and glass ovenware, it is a wee bit heavier than I expected. That's not a negative, however. I was expecting it to be as light as my dish ware Corning set, that is made of the same material (vitrelle).BTW....I got a big kick out of the video presentation, especially since the label warning says not to do that...LOL. It reminded me of a childhood incident, and the tossing of another product on the floor. My mother purchased a set of Melmac (melamine) dishes, that had just come out on the market, from one of those door to door salesmen. The selling point that caught her was that they were unbreakable. The salesman tossed, threw, slammed, and dropped several of the pieces, on the porch, and then on the kitchen floor, and not even a scratch showed on any of the pieces. My mother was hooked, and bought a set. She couldn't wait for my father to come home from work to show him, and had a ball throwing the dishes around. The next day she was on the front steps, and three neighbor ladies were passing by and stopped to say hello. My mother excitedly told them about her new unbreakable dishware. She turned around and asked me to bring out a few pieces, so she could show them. She threw one of the dishes on the sidewalk, which immediately exploded into a thousand pieces. The shocked look on her face, and her jaw dropping to the ground, was too much for me and I fell on the floor laughing all rolled up in a ball.....hey I was a little kid. Her precious unbreakable dish was totally destroyed. Apparently the unbreakable nature of the dishware did not extend to a solid concrete sidewalk.

perfect for microwave use
This item was purchased for one specific use...Microwave. Our regular(and original)microwave thick plastic pieces finally gave up the ghost(after about 40 years)! Our more recent pieces(thin white plastic) were totally worthless! They were cracking, chipping, and warping! We decided that glass(specifically Pyrex)was the way to go! The Pyrex Simply Lite 1-1/2-Qt. casserole is THE BEST!!! It is thinner, and so much lighter than the heavier clear glass, or white with designs (had, and have both). The glass lid is not a tight fit, but shouldn't be for microwave cooking anyway. So far, have not used the plastic lid. Our microwave is above the stove, so the weight of the Pyrex Simply Lite is "just the ticket" when reaching above our heads. It is perfect for cooking frozen veggies, heating leftovers, and anything else we might cook. It also cleans up well! There are only two in our household, so the small size is just fine. We will probably be purchasing another one soon. We highly recommend this dish for microwave use, and oven cooking, too!!!

Cannot be used on the stovetop
I bought this to replace a CorningWare casserole that was broken after 20 years or so of use. It is fine for baking and microwave use, but cannot be used on the stovetop. As this was a primary use of the other casserole, this one does not really replace that one. Why did Corning stop making the other type of bakeware? It was superior to anything else I have used.

Shattering issue
I have been a loyal corningware user for the last thirty years. I love their products but found that they are getting a bit heavy for me as I age. The Simply Lite line seemed like just the fix for this problem. I recently purchased a set at Khols. Last night my husband was putting away dinner leftovers and took out the larger casserole. He set it on the counter but ended up using another container that was a better fit. It sat on the kichen counter over night. In the morning while standing at the sink he heard a loud cracking sound followed by something that flew in front of his face. After inspecting the shard that flew in front of him he realized it had come from the casserole dish. The dish had cracked in a circle so that when he lifted the dish by the handles it was completely seperated from the bottom. He called me at work to tell me what had happened. I asked him to leave it on the counter till I returned home so that I could check it out. He called me back to tell me that he carefully put it on the dining room table because he was afraid to leave it in the kitchen will he was cooking lest it erupt again. I laughed and thought he was really over-reacting. An hour later he called me again to tell me that while he was relaxing on the couch he heard another crackling sound. He went to the dining room table only to find that the casserole dish had totally shattered into little pieces. The dish is brand new. I used it for the first time last week to store broccoli that was leftover from dinner. The only issue I had with it was that the lid was very hard to remove. I did not use it to cook with or put anything hot in it. It never came into contact with heat at all, only the refrigerator. It was not dropped or banged in any way. I will contact Corningware tomorrow with these details and pictures. I will not be using this product ever again.

Loved it while it lasted, but it SHATTERED in my oven!
I had this for about a year. Loved it - used it a few times a week for baking/cooking. Loved that it had a lid for storing and taking to potlucks (only did that a few times). However, I was making dinner and put it in the oven with dinner in it and 2 minutes after putting it in, I hear this loud noise come from the oven. Opened the door and it had shattered into a million pieces! It was at normal room temp. before going into the oven (375 degrees) and it was just holding a few home-made quinoa burgers. There's no logical reason for why this happened. I'm so bummed that I have to find a new dish, because I really did like this one.
