This is the Way to the Moon: A Children's Classic

Great
I purchased this book for each of my four sons' families. I also gave copies(from other sources) to nephews/nieces. My father and his brother owned a construction co. which actually won most of the site preparation and horizontal construction(approaches, causeway, crawlway, (aka: "The Road to the Moon") roadways, launch pads, etc.) contracts at Cape Canaveral/Kennedy/NASA. We lived (and still do!) 2 1/2 hrs' drive north so eventually my Papa and his brother Ben bought a helicopter to commute. All the kids in the neighborhood would gather in our yard in the late afternoon to watch the "touch down". Because my grandfather had actually started the company using slip-pans and mules in early 1900's, its promotional motto became: "From Mules to Missiles". I wanted our younger generation to be reminded of their heritage. I'm thrilled that Sasek has captured so much relevance in this book for little minds.

one of the most unique entries in the sasek series!
sasek's books are all visually lovely, no doubt about it, however they are also incredibly informative, which i quite appreciate. this book is littered with amazing images and interesting facts. i would definitely say this entry has some of the more stylized images present in sasek's books. it made me yearn to go back in time, if only to see the country at that time.and as with all the updated printings of sasek's books, there is a welcome list of "this is the space program...today!" at the end of the book with changes listed since the original printing. it is great to see both the way the program WAS as well as the present day differences.i highly recommend this book if you are interested in either the space program, or simply in wonderful illustration.

Early Cape Canaveral and NASA
Bought this book in remembrance of our trip to NASA in Houston , but it's for Florida. Still a beautifully illustrated book and large enough to show Cape Canaveral and the surrounding area in detail. Our sisterinlaw is buying it to give to her mother as her family lived there during the early moon shots.

Relive your childhood dreams
I used to read and reread this book from my school's library when I was young, and wanted to add it to my personal library now. It was a great storybook for a curious child during NASA's heady days, when they actually had a purpose and leadership. Good memories.

My favorite as a kid
Like many kids, I dreamed of being an astronaut. I use to check this book out a lot in grade school. A wonderful picture book about the early days of the space race. I couldn't resist buying it. Hoping to turn another generation on to Mr. Sasek's books.

Fabulous book!
Purchased this book for my son who is really into space right now. Living in Florida, we loved reading the history behind the space center. I REALLY love the style of the illustrations- they make the book for me. My son was very interested in all of the cool details given on the different rockets. Great buy.

love all these books!
I have several of the Sasek books that have been reissued, and this is one my favorites. I bought it as a Christmas present for my boyfriend, whose grandfather worked at NASA, and we have had a great time reading it, on our own and to my two nieces. Great illustrations and a charming story, as in all Sasek's books.

Beautifully done!
This book is beautifully written and illustrated and just the right level for children. I used to work with the space program and found it very accurate.

Fantastic
I cannot count the amount of times I've read this to my son. I gave it to him a year ago when he was only 3 and although it's aimed at much older kids he absolutely loves it. He knows most of it by heart! I've learned a few facts too.

Fun, Retro Glimpse at Space Travel
'This is the Way to the Moon' is a delightful, genuinely retro, children's book featuring charming illustrations. Originally published in 1963, with the Space Race forefront in everyone's minds, 'This is the Way to the Moon' has been re-released in a facsimile edition. Minor additions to the original text elaborate on the lunar landings and NASA's space program. Miroslav Sasek's books are delightful. We have several in the collection and enjoy looking through them, absorbing the details of the illustrations, and reading the playful text. While 'This is the Way to the Moon' is not the most current text on space travel, it is likely the most amusing currently in circulation. We love the details of Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral, the people in 60's clothing, and the retro color scheme. Beautiful book.
