Zenport GK03 Girdling Knife, 1/4-Inch,Cut

Fast and easy to use. I often girdle Chinese Parasol trees and Mimosa trees and apply 25% glyphosate solution to the exposed xylem/phloem to prevent resprouting from the roots. Girdling trees creates standing dead trees that are a potential hazard or a future "blowdown" on a trail. I only use the method deeper in the woods, away from trails and frequented areas. I am always uncomfortable when I am working in an area with standing dead trees (dead falls).

Effective only on fairly mature trees with sizable branches, as the cutting edge is not super sharp and is sturdy. Probably great for real orchardists, but not fitting for my potted fig trees, except the biggest.

Does a good job scoring my avocado branches...easy and simple to use.

Cuts but could be made to cut easier

A beautifully constructed tool. It is sharp. I think I'll like it better once it dulls a bit so that the girdling causes a bit more damage so that the bark does not heal as quickly.
