Item not completely as described
Pictures included a dustcover for this book. It arrived without the cover, and also had a barcode sticker on the binding. I was able to remove this sticker, but it left a residue on the cover.Other than these disappointing elements, the book arrived in acceptable condition.

A little dated, a little short, but overall good.
It's a perfectly good Hoyle, but it was written in 1985. I'm glad I got this one, because it is small and reasonably thin. I have seen Hoyles that were massive and 3 inches thick that covered all kinds of games. I just wanted a small one for my library since, as an avid card gamer, it seemed weird not to own a Hoyle - I already know the rules for the omitted games I really care about, and I can look the rest up online if I have to.My criticisms:It describes Euchre as a 32-card game. In the US it is almost exclusively a 24-card game.It describes Sixty-Six (with a mistake re: when you can make a marriage) and not Schnapsen which I find more enjoyable. It describes a dated bidding system for Bridge. It describes North American Skat, which is effectively dead and only played (in a variant form) in Texas as far as I know. Everyone plays with international (German) rules now.It calls Spades a "Children's Game". REALLY? And no discussion of its many variants.I was surprised not to see Sheepshead anywhere.I was also a little surprised not to see Go.

Solves many arguments over game rules!
My husband had to have this book growing up as he had an older brother who often changed the rules to suit himself. We bought this one for our grandson hoping to set him straight early!

Overall a Nice Reference Guide for Many Games
Overall a nice reference guide for many games, it has most of the main ones and some that I am not familiar with. The book is very handy to have, especially if there is a dispute on the rules of a game or to learn the rules to a game that you are not familiar with instead of having someone try to explain it to you while they try to remember all the rules and keep back the strategy to themselves. The only think I wish is that the print was a bit better and that it was printed on better quality paper, but I have this complaint about most paperbacks. Anyway, I hope this helps you and have fun.

Needed to replace my old one.
I like knowing the correct methods of the games. This updated version will help keep everyone in line! Some people like to make up their own rules!

A good buy
I like this book a lot. I had a Hoyle book from my neighbor back as a child and never thought to get one of my own. Glad I did. It's nice to have a tangible rule book when getting together with friends that like to make the rules up as they go along. I'm not a game junkie, but it has a lot of games that I needed refreshers on, plus some new ones I was very happy to learn while on vacation.

Social medicine
Casual social gatherings are more fun when guests have entertainment. Games are always a great way to get people mixing and card games have no age barriers. Can actually bring the generations together. And get people off their social media for a while.
