Just what I was looking for

I bought this for my apartment door and I recommend everyone get one.

I installed this on our front door as last week my two year old son was found playing in the front yard after having unlocked the deadbolt and snuck out the door. We're pretty sure the mechanism will also work against my dad, who has dementia and is a bit of a flight risk.Lock seems good, but the screws that come with it are some of the softest screws I've ever seen. I would recommend just not using the ones that come with it. I wish I'd read the reviews mentioning that before installing it.It's functional and not too difficult to install. There wasn't enough clearance for it on our door but a chisel solved that. I didn't even own a chisel before this, let alone have any experience with one, but I didn't have any difficulty figuring it out after watching a three minute video. The reason I give it four stars is because the screws are absolutely horrible. They strip even without the drill slipping. I actually discovered I needed to chisel a bit more after installing it, but I won't be able to get it back on if I manage to remove the screws, so right now it's brushing against the door when it opens and shuts. I'll buy new screws (they're thicker than the ones I already have) and fix that later. I would still recommend the lock though.

I needed something that would prevent someone from opening my back door in the event they broke the glass and unlocked the deadbolt. This simple device did the trick. I like that it is white and doesn't call attention to itself. It is easy to operate from the inside and actually prevents the door being opened from the outside.

No dislikes. Perfect for single people who live alone! I would suggest having two on the front and back doors. And maybe two for a closet door being used as a safty room.

I put two of these on our front door. One above the handle and one around halfway between the handle and the door bottom. The Phillips head screws round out and cannot be screwed all of the way in. I wasn't going to use them because they are too short to use for serious protections from kick-ins. I tried one to see if they were worth saving for other projects. They were junk. I used three inch deck screws instead. The latches are made of thick metal and seem to be well made. I bought the white latches to go on the white-trimmed door. My only concern is that if we had a fire and needed to get out in a hurry would I be able to unlatch them quickly enough. Unlatching requires a fairly strong grip between the thumb and index finger to unlatch. I would think that in time the unlatching procedure would be second nature. The instructions were not worth much.
