Building a Vertical Steam Engine from Castings

Valuable book for the first time builder. One error though is on page 44 for the dimension of the piston rod. It is listed as 1 13/32 between threads which has been converted to mm and written down as 45mm. It should be 36mm

This is a fresh reprint of a succinct 63 page booklet (1995 revision) that contains all the info one needs to build the 10V on a lathe and bench drill. The lathe probably needs some kind of milling 'attachment', but there is mention of building the entire machine with only a hacksaw and files.Plenty useful B&W photos (slightly blurry) are included that show how to hold the work in the lathe, cutting tools required etc. All relevant drawing are shown with dimensions in both Metric and Imperial. Although the booklet was about £13 all-in, it's the useful info therein that makes it worth the money. I've only scanned the booklet so far and haven't yet started building the 10V so will report back any pluses/minuses.Edit: Contains errors, and has converted the most of the Imperial sizes to Metric. The Stuart Models drawing sheet that comes with the castings is all Imperial. The booklet is still useful but can cuase some confusion in places.

Excellent book ..clearly written and easy to follow. Great beginners choice

A very useful reference for my domestic foundrywork casting components for a vertical steam engine for my welded Radio control Titanic, good book, but unfortunately the diagram legends aren't labelled, it's only for an existing stuart models engine and the format of the book is very poor- like a leaflet you would get in junk mail.I am very happy with the insightful content, the very prompt and courteous service- but the quality of the publishing needs a lot of development.Overall a book I am reasonably happy with!

Super Anleutung zum Bau der Maschine.Das Buch ist so gut und leicht verständlich geschrieben das damit wohl jeder zurecht kommt, etwas Englisch vorausgesetzt!

Dieses Buch beschreibt die Arbeitsschritte für den Bau einer Modelldampfmaschine (Stuart 10V) aus den Gussteilen, die der unbearbeitete Bausatz enthält. Die einzelnen Arbeitsschritte sind sehr anschaulich erklärt und auch bildlich recht gut dargestellt. Das Buch macht "Appetit" auf die praktische Anwendung.Schön wäre es allerdings gewesen, wenn hier etwas mehr auf die Mindestanforderungen an die Drehmaschine eingegangen worden wäre, hier ist nur der Maschinentyp des Verfassers genannt und das wars...

I was disappointed! The item shown is not the item shipped.The shipped book was a very much newer edition, with only metric data and measurements. Any model builder set up for metric work will find it quite informative, but my reason for buying it was to get the red edition which contains both metric and imperial measurements
