Flap or zip? Does it open wide?** A: There is an initial flap that magnetically snaps (this is the area that you see with the straps), once you have opened that you there are two compartments with zippers. The main one is at the top. It is fairly deep and holds a lot of items and it is insulated. I would say that it opens fairly wide, we packed a lot of food in them, along with some small ice packs. Obviously it is not one for more than one day, but it works great for a picnic, or day hike. The other compartment is smaller and closer to the bottom and it also zips. It is the one that houses the plates, utensils, etc. This is a very high quality product. My husband and I took it with us while hiking in Zion's Canyon, Utah and the Grand Canyon, Arizona. We had another day pack, but this one was really nice as we were able to pack our lunches and snacks. There is a side pocket that also zips and is also insulated that can hold water bottles, or mini bottles, etc. **Q: Are the straps and trim on the outside of the backpack real leather or vinyl?** A: This company is the worst! DO NOT BUY!!! I received this product and it was COVERED in mold...absolutely disgusting and unsafe. I contacted the company via chat and was told to dispose of it and we would be refunded. So we threw it away. Waiting on refund and never received so I contacted them again and was told the previous agent gave us incorrect information and we need to send the product back. We already threw it in the trash a week before and were TOLD to do that. So we spent over 6 hours on the phone with a dozen or more Amazon agents and they said "we cannot do anything because you threw it away ". No refund, no credit, nothing. So ridiculous. It makes zero sense. I'm pretty sure this company has been sending the same moldy product over and over again because other people have had this issue. I compared my moldy backpack with other pictures on the reviews and they look identical. This company is the worst, please avoid at all cost. We still have not resolved this issue and will not be backing down. They absolutely love it. The large pack itself is insulated for food and/or wine, the blanket fits right on the side, and there are plenty of separate places for phones, chargers, and anything else you might need on a romantic outing. The bag is made of a heavy canvas so it should hold up to lots of off-road use.When the recipients of the gift get back from their trip, I'll add their opinion of the back pack. For the money, this is not a cheaply made backpack. It has well-made flatware, plastic plates, a corkscrew of course, a tiny set of salt and paper made of stainless steel. I'll give more details after I see how it's been used.Honestly, this is going to be my go-to present for any weddings I go to, birthday parties, housewarmings, any time I need the kind of gift you've always wanted but never buy for yourself.
