Square Reader for magstripe (headset jack)

My teen daughter started a business. She mostly sells her products to her friends and other kids at school. However, she has expanded to craft fairs and popup shops. She only accepted cash, cashapp, and zelle during her first 2 events and missed out on some sales because she had no way to process credit/debit cards.I did some research and determined that Square was the best card service for someone in her situation and here's why.1. Square only charges a small fee per transaction. The other companies I checked required monthly fees or had higher per transaction fees.2. This little plug in device is easy to transport and works seamlessly with her phone. It requires the Square app which was easy to download and setup.3. You can set your account for automatic transfers and get money deposited into your bank account 2 days later, just like most other payment apps. There is NO fee for transfers unless you want your funds immediately for which there is a small transfer fee, like most payment apps.4. The Square account can help you expand your business. Now that my daughter has this account, she's contemplating doing online sales as well.5. The was a $10 redemption code when I bought this reader, making this a completely free purchase. We added the redemption code to her account and Square transferred $10 to her bank account the next day.This is such a great product for someone starting out. Maybe there's better pricing somewhere else for larger volume businesses. But this is perfect for her needs at the moment.

Lost my original reader and bought this to replace it. Works great on my Android. It was very easy to set up and use. Very cost effective for occasional use.

Square spares no expense when it comes to packaging their hardware. Even the $15 dock for this item came packaged really well. The reader is well made and very sturdy. It feels like opening a high dollar Apple product with the robust box. The only issue I have come across is that pairing to another device such as another phone/tablet has to be done manually by pushing the little button on the bottom of the device. The button is recessed to stop accidentally pushing it, however, this makes it require two hands to press it, making it where you have to lay your other device down to push the button.As for connection range between the bluetooth card reader and your device running the Square App, you can expect roughly 20-25ft before the card reader is no longer able to communicate with the Square App. The card/chip reader does auto reconnect to the last used device, making using it on one device pretty straight forward and reliable. The only issue I can see at the time of writing this review is that your customers might be concerned about popping their charge card in a handheld device that is not familiar to them. People trust cell phones/tablets more then a pocket sized device they have never seen before.

bought this to sell t-shirts at a weekend softball tournament. At first some were skeptical thinking most people would not use their cards. Not only did we end up selling more shirts because we had this option, but most who would have only had cash to buy one, ended up buying more. Amount that you are charged by 'Square' is really very small, but it is worth the convenience! We used it on an iPad so the it was easier to navigate, use, see and for people to sign. Having the option to email or text the receipt to customers was also a nice touch which allowed us not to have to buy a receipt book, but also not have to slow down sales to fill out receipts. We had some glitches at times, but not many. Not having a monthly or yearly fee to use this is also great because we only will be using it for 3 days a year, so we are not losing money for 11 months out of the year. Very pleased, it is stored away and will be used again next year.
