Russian Fairy Tales (Everyman's Library CHILDREN'S CLASSICS)

Nice hardbound book....Love it

The book contains around eleven Russian Fairy tales which are very well translated/retold, difficult Russian names dont bother much in the stories. This makes reading smooth and enjoyable.What makes the book attractive is the numerous illustrations for the size of the book. There are 3 double page illustrations, 24 full page illustrations and more than a dozen quarter page illustrations. The illustrations by Ivan Bilibin are awesome and depict Russian themes very well in its colors and hues.Somehow, the paintings are not produced very bright and seem somewhat muddy. Not sure whether it is poor printing or the original illustrations are not preserved well. Surely it could have been much better, still it does offer a very different styling of illustrations for a fairy tales book.For such nice stories and gorgeous illustrations, publishers could have made this book a grand offering with extra large size using glossy white papers. This would have brought Bilibin's illustrations more vivid and it would have been a tribute to the art and artist. It's beautiful and if you're Russian Literature fan you must buy it... It's amazing book. every book collector loves to add this one.

Frankly quality of book (as in binding , paper quality) is superb. Collection of stories is also nice, BUT...at least for me main draw of the book was it's illustrations. And these are just flat and drab . I expected much more lively colours...

It is an ok book but it is better to invest your money in the original 1960s hardcover edition by progress publishers if you are able to find it...that book has a far better translation and feels magical...since i have read that one in my childhood i found the translation in this one terribly boring

I loved the collection of Russian fairy tales and it had very good illustrations. I bought this for my wife and she really liked it as did I.If you are at all interested in this topic (and the stories are very good) I highly recommend the book.

I bought this for myself but ended up giving it to my niece for xmas. She loved it. I am waiting for her to finish so I can borrow it. Such beautiful illustrations and so well bound.
