Understanding Ultrasound Physics, Third Edition

Sidney Edelman and Frank Miele write the best review books for ultrasound physics !
This review is for the 3rd Edition of Understanding Ultrasound Physics by Sidney K Edelman, PhD. The author has a great reputation for educating those who are preparing for the SPI examination, or variations of the physics component for clinical ultrasonography examinations. This includes cardiac sonography, Obstetric sonography, abdominal sonographers, vascular technologists and neurodiagnostic sonographers who do intracranial and extracranial studies, among others. The book is divided into 22 chapters and starts with "The Basics" to chapters 20 (Artifacts), 21 (Quality Assurance) and chapter 22 (Bioeffects). The chapters are written in a logical manner and build on previous chapters. The concepts are presented well and simplified for generalized understanding.Perhaps the best part of the book is a large number of questions with easy to access answers right next to the question that makes the review process very streamlined and easy to process.I have not and did not use the X-Zone free offer but it is available for those who purchase the book. I understand that it is excellent.I believe that Dr Edelman and also Dr Frank Miele Jr are the pre eminent authors who make this subject a pleasure to study. Dr Miele also has a large number of books and DVDs that are well worth purchasing and having on your book shelf.

Very easy to follow book of ultrasound physics.
After trying to work my way through some other required textbooks, I kept hearing about this book being easier to understand and read. I decided to purchase it and there is no doubt it is the easiest read. The subject matter is presented in a straightforward manner and the editing makes it easy to find the information you want.It helped me pass one physics class and when I take the final I will definitely be using this book. I also sought out flashcards made by the author of the book as well.

So easy to understand!
I am currently in a sonography program and the new book my professor had us buy is impossible to understand for a beginner. You just read and re-read the same things over and over again and still don't understand. Edelman makes everything make perfect sense and easy to understand. Some of these reviews say it's too simple but as a beginning sonographer, we shouldn't need to understand like a physicist would. I will write a follow up review when I'm done reading it and also when I take my SPI boards.

great tool for studying for the SPI exam
This is a really good book to study from when preparing to take the ARDMS physics registry exam. Everything is explained in easy to understand language, and some things that never made sense to me when I learned them the first time became crystal clear (what exactly is PRP, why multiply the thickness of the PZT element by 2, etc). There are questions at the end of nearly every chapter, along with an additional 600 questions in the back of the book. I'm not sure how good of a resource this would be when first learning the material, but it's definitely a great refresher. That said, this book is a little dated at times. There are no mentions of multi-frequency probes, 3D/4D ultrasound, and newer technical advances. Therefore, I wouldn't use this as my only resource for studying for the physics registry. I used this book to complement my class notes.

This book has helped break down the key points associated ...
This book has helped break down the key points associated with Ultrasound Physics. On its on it lacks more in depth information needed for the boarders, but has been beneficial in helping me with a basis for the information I need to understand to get the more complex information.

Great quality for a used book!
There were no markings of any kind in this book...I was amazed that it was actually used. The only indication was a paper clip strategically placed in the exam review section (would not have known right away that so many great questions were available...thank you previous owner ;)!!!!!!!). Love, love, love the text...Edelman really breaks down and simplifies the core concepts of ultrasound physics!
