They don't last
I had high hopes for these, but they just don't last. They do remove material quickly, but you'd expect that from any 50 grit belt. The first one developed a hole on the first 20 minutes of use and the second one developed a hole after a couple weeks of intermittent usage. I've used a variety of brands and you expect the grit to wear eventually. These are the first belts I've had where the belt itself fails and you get a hole. Time to try another brand..

As good as it get
Hey this is the best sanding-belt I use in ages. I usually use the "blue Norzon" but it's not everybody who carries that product. To me everything hell can't stand my need and work. I have a machine shop and almost 100% of what I do past on the belt to be de-bur, send and even sharp my HSS tools, and this belt last me more than 30 days of intensive work and still fine. Ya it's a bit doll but I like-it like that. I work with Al 20xx 5xxx 60xx Stainless 308, 316, 316L Steel A36 to tools steel plastic from acetal to polycarbonate, some wood from balsa to tech and even my finger once in a while... opsPro:-The backing material is very strung and resistant.-Resist well to tear-off or fall apart.-The joint doesn't have direction, doesn't split and doesn't make the part jump.-The abrasive breaks apart in an expected speed (I work with Stainless steel 316L) and keep working-Stand heatCon:-reading this (with my Frenglish...)I would say; I recommend it but I know Amazon change their product, price or provider without giving you a clue. But for less than 20$ and prime, the price is good and I got a killer deal for the quality of product I got. I order the Sungold 35166 6" x 48" 80g if you need to know LOL

so far, seems like a good belt at a good price.
I bought these for my new Harbor Freight belt sander because I plan to use it primarily for steel, cast iron and aluminum, so I wanted a coarser grit belt than what came with the sander.I've used it very little but had to grind some rough cast iron brackets and it worked fine.Have not used it enough to get a feel for the lifespan, but so far so good, am happy with these belts.Hard to find in 40 grit, and a good price to boot.

The courser the better.
I am not sure why more hardware stores do not carry the 6 by 48 inch sanding belts but they are very hard to come by locally. When you do find them you rarely find them in 40 grit. My experience is that the courser they are the better they work on these stationary sanding machines. So to find them in 40 grit and for a reasonable price is very welcome! These work well and I could have given them another star however I do not have a feel for how long they last.

Holds up way better than cheap belts from Harbor Freight
When I first got my 48x6 belt sander from Harbor Freight the belt lasted me for maybe 5-6 hours of use before a few accidental nicks caused it to tear. But by then it wasn't looking too good as far as it's abrasive properties went either. I had to continue using it while waiting for these to arrive and it wasn't fun with all the holes.I've already had this belt for at least four times longer than the one from Harbor Freight. It doesn't have that annoying bump either and feels completely flat where the belt ends unite. I resurface many car parts like manifolds and etc so I've accidentally nicked this belt a few times already, but every time I feared it was going to rip but it keeps on kicking and it's still in one piece. I'm starting to wear down the abrasive properties of my first belt and still got two more left to go.I'm definitely going to stick with Sungold when it's time to reorder.

It works as well
The belt is durable and works in either direction. I like to turn the belt in the opposite direction at the half life of grit. It is as good as more expensive brands that I've used over the years.
