Excellent pasta maker, 5 types with 3 attachments
This pasta maker set is a fantastic addition to a home kitchen. The stainless steel machine is sturdy and the three interchangeable attachments let you make spaghetti, fettuccine, angel hair, ravioli, and lasagnette — five different pasta types with one machine. The adjustable thickness dial gives good control over the texture. After some practice with the dough consistency, the results are impressive — fresh pasta has a noticeably better texture and flavor than dried pasta. The machine clamps securely to the countertop. The durable cutters stay sharp. Cleanup is easy since pasta dough doesn't stick much once dry. A great gift for food enthusiasts and an excellent tool for anyone who wants to make homemade pasta regularly.

Works great, but don't get this if all you want is ravioli!
Such a great machine!!! My hunky and I got this so that we could make spinach whole wheat pasta into ravioli since we both want to incorporate more whole wheat and we've been curious about the possibility of making our own pastas. First of all, the cleaning process was super easy and took us maybe 5 minutes to roll paper towels through the rollers that we needed before we were absolutely sure that all of the excess oil and metal were removed, so that's no big deal. Then it took us maybe 30 minutes to get really good with rolling the pasta to the right thickness without breaking it, so while there was a learning curve it actually turned out to be super easy to use and understand! The ravioli attachment also worked brilliantly, although I'd say that we're probably never going to use it again because 1) It didn't quite lock into place properly on the machine itself and 2) the ravioli it makes were so small that you could barely taste and enjoy the filling! We're probably just going to make them by hand next time and use one of the pasta crimp roller wheel things instead. (We got the Norpro 112 Grip-EZ pastry and Ravioli Wheel and can already confirm it works great!) Also, the only downside of the machine itself is more a downside of our kitchen. Because the machine's handle can only be placed on one certain side, there's only one spot in our whole kitchen counter that can accommodate it and allow for us to roll out the dough without hitting a literal wall. I wish that the handle could be put into either side, and I also kind of wish that it had come with 2 c-clamps instead of just one but... Other than that, honestly, I'm so pleased with how well this inexpensive machine performed that I'm not actually bothered by this. But I would say that if you're getting this specifically for the ravioli attachment, which I did, just skip it and form the ravioli by hand. You can get an equivalent machine for about $25 here on Amazon that doesn't have the attachment instead.

The turning handle falls off
It's wonderful that it makes all the different pastas I ever want to make. But the turn handle keeps falling out every time you let go of it then you have to chase it across the floor or the table. The one thing I would improve is but turn handle actually we go in and stay in.

Good Uniform Pasta
I might be bad at making pasta, but at least it looks pretty thanks to this. The machine is easy to implement and set up, and it makes such nice looking pasta. It is difficult to clean because of the inner mechanisms.

Disappointing somewhat [correction : user error][excellent customer service]
ORIGINAL Main roller unit - Works well with plain flour and egg dough. Does not work well with "Keto" flour based dough - which sticks to the rollers and is difficult to remove / clean. Accessories - Out of the five variations of pasta, two cutters fail to cut all the way through. _ _ Fettucine & _ _ Lasagnette; both require one to pull apart the noodles, regardless of composition / thickness / dryness. _ _ Angel Hair & _ _ Spaghetti work well, fully cutting through dough. Ravioli maker hasn't been tested enough to make a conclusive report. Without any means to adjust the cutters, one is at the mercy of the quality control of the manufacturer. It would appear to be inconsistent, since several other reviews mentioned bad results with different accessories. CAVEAT EMPTOR ::::::::::: CORRECTION ::::::::::: After testing the cutters with a sheet of paper, it was obvious that the problem was NOT the cutters. More research led me to conclude that my noodle dough was not DRY enough. Remedy : Make the dough as dry as possible. After rolling out the dough into a THIN sheet , let it REST for 10 - 20 minutes, so it dries out more, BEFORE running the dough sheet through the cutters. *Problem Solved* MEA CULPA UPDATE Excellent customer service - - - Replaced defective unit Highly recommend

Basic Pasta Roller is Ok, the rest isn't.
I ordered this product for my mother for Christmas 2013, and we were both quite disappointed in the device that arrived. On initial inspection everything seems solid. With the exceptions of the Ravioli attachment and the little cutter to ensure that your pasta dough is of even width, it is all metal construction. The basic pasta mill, the part that compresses the dough down to the proper thickness is the only part of this device that worked correctly. From there on, each of the attachments had problems that could not be solved by simply using a thinner thickness of pasta dough, or less filling. After thinning out a batch of dough to the thickness recommended in the instruction manual, each cutter attachment was unable to properly cut that style of pasta. The Ravioli making attachment would randomly foul on the left or right side, crushing whatever ravioli were being made on that side, it would also overload with any amount of filling even approaching the prescribed volume of filling in the instruction manual. The attachment intended for lasagna noodles had some sort of internal gearing problem, and only half of the attachment worked, and would not allow for the production pasta through it. Additionally, all of the attachments would keep popping off from the basic machine while in use. As this is a hand cranked machine, the need to constantly reattach the attachments to the base machine is unacceptable. Finally, there were the metal shavings in the pasta... This IS normal at first, as the metal gears inside do need some time to properly mesh and come together. This effect of the new machine is even mentioned in the instruction manual, so we were not alarmed at first. However, after five batches of dough through the basic machine and the two attachments that actually worked, we were still getting large amounts of shavings and decided to call it a night. if you are still reading my review I applaud you. I selected this set because it was well reviewed, it was made of solid metal and the gears were also metal. This meant to me that there would be little to no chance of the gears breaking over time because they were plastic. However, As you can clearly see I am quite disappointed in this product and cannot recommend it to anyone.

Don't be scared, it works.
I was hesitant to buy this product based on the two negative, most up-voted reviews. One goes on about how crummy and unworkable the product is; the other talks about black and silver metal particles coming out of the device. I purchased it anyway, based on the other reviews that haven't been voted up past the two negative reviews for some reason. The bottom line is that the product is relatively inexpensive and it works. I've encountered no metal particles in my pasta. The pasta can travel to the sides as you crank if you're not careful, but it does go through. The product does work. It appears to me to be solidly built. Its manufacture does not appear tinny or crummy. The main body of the unit is designed to flatten your dough to the desired thickness. There are seven settings. You start with the most thick and work your pasta down to the desired level of thinness. The other pieces are attachments that involve the second stage where you make the pasta the desired shape (fettuccine style, spaghetti style, etc.). You attach the unit by sliding it into grooves on the front of the main unit. You then attach the crank into a hole on the side of the attachment and turn it to work the pasta through. The attachments easily slide in and out but stay in place once attached. So don't be scared. It works. There are a few annoyances, however. - The bottom support "pads" aren't pads at all, but pieces of hard white plastic. On smooth surfaces, the machine will slide during use if not held in place. - The height of the crank is higher than the machine, so you will have to use the machine with the edge of it near the edge of a counter. - When you put one of the attachments (to cut the pasta into the various kinds of pasta shapes) on the unit, the weight distribution isn't completely stable, and it can topple over if you're not careful. This really hasn't been much of a problem for me, though. It can topple, but generally doesn't. - The crank is removable and does not lock in place. If you forget this fact, it can fall out on you if you move the unit and haven't taken out the crank. And, lastly, some helpful advice as there may be other newbie pasta makers out there like myself. Before using the unit, make sure you have enough room. You will need somewhere to lay out or hang your pasta. There may be a reason why the "pads" on the main unit aren't sticky pads. As you crank the pasta out, you have the option to slide the unit so that the pasta can be flat when it comes out. Imagine feeding out a length of rope as you walk backwards. If you do that, the rope will form a relatively straight line. If you stay stationary, the rope will just fall in front of you, folding and coiling on itself. Depending on the pasta recipe and thickness setting you use, your pasta may be brittle and break as it folds or may stick to itself when it remains in contact with itself for some time. So I think sliding the unit as you crank or having someone else around to gently grab the pasta and pull it forward can be a great help. Manage your pasta-making in stages by portioning out the dough into small portions, so that the unprocessed pasta isn't sitting out, drying up, and becoming brittle and the pasta being processed doesn't have a chance to stick to itself once made because your attention is on managing your work space and dealing with finding a place for your pasta, moving it around gently, making sure the unprocessed pasta isn't getting too dry, etc. My first few attempts at pasta making were a mess because I didn't do this. Pasta was everywhere, and my real-estate for working was dwindling rapidly. I painted myself in a corner. Give yourself lots of time and room by making sure you have a large working area. Portion out the dough, keeping the portions you aren't processing in the fridge wrapped in saran wrap. Also, depending on your recipe, the cooking time for the pasta may be very different from what you expect. I would work with really small portions at first, cooking experimentally and sampling often while boiling. Fresh pasta cooking is different than cooking store bought stuff. Some kinds of fresh pasta take longer than you expect to get to the right mouth-feel, others take a lot less time. The low price of this unit it makes it ideal for beginners like myself. I am sure there are other units that are better, but this one works for me at my current stage of culinary development. I figure three stars would be a fair rank in this regard. Good luck and have fun!

Excellent Quality-Value for a beginner machine
If you go easy on the machine and your pasta has a good consistency, the machine is very easy to use, and never seems to force any parts of it, but you have to be very patient. Excellent for trying for the first time, before moving to a much expensive machine. Be aware that: - You need a very good pasta consistency, and keep it under a humid towel while working your noodles with the machine - Go as slow as you can, so the paste won't break the machine - Place a rubber mat under the machine before attaching it to a counter or a table, it will stay on place right as it should and the machine will never move or tilt
