The Best Day

Thurston's Still Got It
Remember Thurston Moore's first solo record Psychic Hearts? Far from the indie-folk niceness of his later solo efforts, Psychic Hearts sounded like a bunch on Sonic Youth songs that Thurston didn't want to perform with that band. Not b-sides or rejects, but SY-style songs that Moore, for whatever reason, wanted to do himself. That's what The Best Day sounds like. Obviously SY is no more, but Moore here presents a collection of latter-day SY-quality numbers that feature all the guitar effects, driving drums, and poetic lyrics of the best such tunes. The Best Day has often been compared to A Thousand Leaves, but I think it's closer to Sonic Nurse. The songs are filled with a casual, easy psychadelia. And the first two tracks kick some serious butt. Thurston's still got it.

I love Thurston Moore's music and couldn't wait to get this
I love Thurston Moore's music and couldn't wait to get this. It is a little derivative of the "Trees" album, which is the only reason i didn't give it 5 stars, even though i think this is a tremendous album. Some tracks and parts of tracks drift into becoming quite grungy and in my mind i can imagine TM having a great time in recording. If i were to recommend TM to a newcomer i would suggest the "Trees" album first, but i really love this as well.

This is a great album! Much of it feels like a Sonic ...
This is a great album! Much of it feels like a Sonic Youth album circa Murray Street. If you are a SY fan and like the post 2000 stuff, I don't think you will be disappointed. Many (4 of the 8) of the songs are great guitar jams that build to a great crescendo. Think Murray Street. Already this is my favorite Thurston Moore Solo Album. As far as solo post Sonic Youth Releases, In my opinion, this is in a tie with Body/Head and Lee Renaldo's "Between the Times and Tides" for the Best. I highly recommend!

Great!
Im a long time Sonic Youth fan and have been mising the beautiful circular rolling sound of feedback from those guys since their break up. Well, Thurston has brought it back home. With Steve Shelly (Sonic Youth) on drums and Deb Googe (My Bloody Valentine) on bass this is the sound that i have droning in my head for years. Thanks You Thurston!

If Thurston Soley Owned SY
This has been my late-night record of choice for the last few months, I listen to it at least weekly, fall deep into it every time. I like the Chelsea Light Moving record, also, don't miss its screaming punk song, do miss SY, and look forward to more Thurston.

You might want to ask about promo copies
Great album, and great deal, but it would have been nice if they had stated they were selling me a promo copy w/a huge sticker covering the entire rear of the album cover.

The other band....
Big fan of Thurston Moore solo music. Even more than Sonic Youth. Solid, well played rockers.

Sonic Youth

Noisy and beautiful
Might as well be a new Sonic Youth album. Excellent melodies and explosive songs all around. "Grace Lake" is a favourite.
