Q: Does the 12x16 come with a shelf and recommendations for placing that securely?

12x16 does not come with shelf, only 12x24 does. A shelf can be made from regular tile underlayment or even large format tile that can reach from one side of the niche to another. To secure shelf the bottom portion of niche needs to be tiled first on all 3 sides. Shelf can then be placed on top of the tile. It would be resting and supported by the tile underneath. After shelf is placed the top part of niche can be tiled. This way shelf will be locked in by tile below and above. After shelf is locked between top and bottom portion of the niche it can also be tiled.
