Can we use 'fat wood' to help start fires in this fire pit? This wood often drips sap, and I did not know if the sap would compromise the mesh.

Yes, you can use sappy wood as well as other wax based fire starters. It will not harm the mesh. Please do not overuse! The main challenge is that too much sap or wax will drip through the mesh onto the Heat Shield or ground. This causes a cleaning issue for the ground or Heat Shield after the fire. Generally, these fire fuels are not needed to start a fire in our PopUp Pit as the airflow from underneath makes starting fires easier.

What is the cost of a replacement screen?

My screen only lasted 2 fires both fires had no more that 4 slices of bundle wood.

Does ash or burnt material fall through the mesh onto the surface below?

I have found that there is a tiny amount of extremely fine ash that makes it through the mesh. If this matters, than the heat shield would collect it.
