It will not harm the mesh. Please do not overuse! The main challenge is that too much sap or wax will drip through the mesh onto the Heat Shield or ground. This causes a cleaning issue for the ground or Heat Shield after the fire. Generally, these fire fuels are not needed to start a fire in our PopUp Pit as the airflow from underneath makes starting fires easier. **Q: Does it come with a cooking grate** A: We have two different versions of our portable folding cooking grates.
