Great Book for Avid Gun Aficionado
My young son he has three of these gun encyclopedias. He LOVES the military and he LOVES these books. He's reads them daily and has everything memorized and loves rattling off details. There is information on all of the weapons; where they were first produced, calibur, year created, you name it. It also has various information on specific battles and leaders. Great for information for a war or weapons historian or collector. The book arrived quickly and was packaged well.

A Little About a Lot
Encyclopedias give you a little bit of information about a lot of things. In this case, a paragraph or two on over 500 pistols, revolvers, submachine guns. Made from high gloss paper, almost every entry has a photo of the weapon, brief narrative and a few statistics about each one.Caliber, weight/length of weapon, number of rounds carried and manufacturer are included. 256 pages spell out over 500 different weapons. Authors do a good job with the space available. The same authors also wrote an larger encyclopedia with over 500 pages, as you would expect, it costs more.I'd recommend this for someone who has a passing interest in handguns, submachine guns. This is a good value for the money. It will not help you if you are a collector or want to know in depth histories of individual weapons or the history of armament companies. By the way, how do you miss including the AK-47? There's a section of assault rifles, it should be there.

The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Pistols Revolvers and Submachine Guns
Purchased for my brother. In light of the recent shootings -- maybe it was a bad choice. But for those who collect guns and do no harm - this type of information is just for fun not for harm.

My adult son doesn't read much but he enjoyed reading this book. It is an interesting book with good pictures.

limited information on older arms.
I was hoping to see a lot more guns from the past ie , old west, and older. Basically fire arms from the beginning of black powder to modern day.

Good
Great book for people with no guns or very few. It's well illustrated and most of the history is fair and balanced. There are much better catalogs and histories, but this is a good place to start, particularly for those who don't read much.
