Casio GW-S5600-1JF G-SHOCK Tough Solar Watch

First, a request: Casio, please design more square G variations for your RM line.I bought my first G in 1997. Before that I only had the OD green Timex ‘PX Special’ I bought for basic training in 1990, and then my beloved Seiko diver that I picked up while stationed in Korea during 1991. As the 2000s commenced I began to wear analog watches exclusively. I have no idea what happened to that original 90s G, but 25 years later this GW-S5600 is the perfect re-introduction to G squares. I have never liked the round Gs, and some of the more tactical looking squares are not my thing (I was already in the Army). This one is more sporty than tactical, though I might have bought a mature color like navy or gray, if it were available. The entire finish is glossy, for lack of a better term. The carbon fiber and titanium materials are next-level design and engineering that Casio should be touting more for its adult customers (many Gs are marketed to youth), as well as customers who care about functionality and quality, not just fashionable collabs and freaky colors. This combination of materials also strikes a nice balance of premium construction that can be had at just below $300, unlike some of the ridiculous multi-thousand dollar Gs that have come out lately. The band is not too long, as some reviews note. My wrist is only 6 ¾ inches in diameter. I wear the band on the 6th hole from top, and if I’m moving fast or doing something rough, then I snug it to the 5th hole. Just slide the keeper up to almost the end of the band. It’s also carbon fiber and is unlikely to break. I also really like the look and feel of the band having a uniform width, rather than the tapering seen on many resin G bands. The functions of the module are smooth and intuitive as one would expect from a G-Shock. I should note that I did NOT want Bluetooth, so this mode having both solar and multiband atomic functionality, but no Bluetooth was ideal for me. The first day I had it, I couldn’t wait for the signal to sync so I tried several times but never achieved a manual Get because the reception was only at L1 (it was around noon). After a few failed attempts, I hung the watch on a steel and iron fireplace screen and achieved reception of L3, achieving the first Get. Most makeshift antennas made of big metal objects will boost the atomic reception to an L3. I have placed the watch near a window at night and it generally never fails to sync w Fort Collins overnight. This, like all atomic Gs, is simply one of THE most accurate watches you can buy. This watch is the most comfortable in my collection. It’s so light that when I do change things up and put on a diver or something with a steel bracelet I notice the weight difference at odd points during the day. Another aspect of comfort is that this watch is not garishly large and doesn’t have things protruding from it, so it fits under most sleeves. Even when it doesn’t, it’s tasteful. The slightly slimmer case places the crystal that much closer to the LCD and makes the display extremely legible.The case back and it’s four screws have a typical titanium look and feel. Notice how they match the dark gray matte handle of the Chris Reeve Large Sebenza I pictured with the watch. Also notice how the steel blade and screws of the knife match the shiny pushers, band screws, and buckle. I did not believe anything but the case back and accompanying screws were titanium because all of the other metal elements of this watch look and feel like steel. However, Casio’s website states the following for this watch: “Titanium is used for metal parts such as the back cover, side buttons, and beautiful locks. The back cover is forged to pursue impact resistance and durability.” Looking at the watch I would find it hard to believe all of the metal elements are titanium, yet it is so light I am compelled to believe it. Perhaps someone can weigh in authoritatively.Besides its high marks for comfort, this thing keeps up with my lifestyle and requires very little in return. This fine solar watch exceeded all expectations. To begin with, it was delivered sooner than projected, it was safely packaged, and came out of the box in perfect condition (totally blemish free - clean & shining bright.). The attractive case is just the ideal size by all dimensions, glossy finish, nicely detailed markings, mineral crystal, titanium back, and is really cool to look at. All the functions work as described, very reliable with a radio signal calibration received each day at precisely 12:04 a.m. The operation of this watch as a whole is truly Fantastic! Furthermore, the Carbon-Fiber band is a very unique compliment to the case. This original type of band is really special and simply Magnificent! This beautiful band is exceptionally comfortable to wear, as it has a really smooth texture, soft to the touch, pleasing to the touch, yet is strong and flexible. This band is highly attractive, with wonderful detailing and highlighted with a glossy protective coating. The top finish is most exquisite. The inner part of the band is lined with a velvet-soft material that makes wearing it ultra-comfortable. If the fine case is described as the “sweet cherry on top,” then this beautiful band is the “icing on the cake.” The band has eleven holes and fits perfectly on my wrist. Finally, the back of the case is fitted with a true-titanium cover, which is very tough & resilient, cool to look at, and nice to have in contact with the skin (really soft feeling.). In my humble opinion, this Top-Quality band is well worth paying the extra money, since you really do get what you pay for. In summary, this Casio G-Shock Solar Watch is a Superb High-Quality Timepiece that is a unique blend of multi-functional sports practicality, along with a luxuriously fine touch of elegance!

This is the best G-Shock square money can buy IMO! What makes it so great? Let me count the ways: positive display that's very sharp and easy to read, indestructible carbon fiber strap that looks great, titanium case back that improves strength and corrosion resistance while reducing weight (also feels better against the skin), solar charging with 10 month reserve, atomic time sync, world time, all the timing and alarm functions you'd expect, extremely lightweight, super comfortable on wrist, looks great, and of course G-Shock tough! I love this watch - it's by far my favorite "G".

Just got it, ordered on june 14 and arrived yesterday in Belgium. Import tariff was 45 euro but whatever. I already have gw-5600 on wrist for 4 years and this watch is pretty much same but classier and more posh. I really like the glowy case and the darker "G-SHOCK" and "PROTECTION" words, the carbon fiber strap is very comfy and better then a resin band. As always, very user-friendly, set your local city and 2 min later the atomic accurate time pops up. It weighs nothing and you can wear it for everything. Next month my Rangeman arrives and I'll have 3 G-shocks. So careful, you might get addicted to these digital delights.

I LOVE G-SHOCK'S! Its a great watch! Only reason for 4 stars is the cost.

I really bought this because I was very curious about the longevity of this band. It is a beautiful square & The lightest, most comfortable G, I own. The band is easily the nicest watch band I have ever seen and it looks super high tech and exclusive. However I would have liked to see this hardware on a bigger square like the king, but this was the only one I could find. i'd forgotten how small the square looked because it used to look bigger on my wrist when I used to have another one back in high school. No regrets from me though, but you may want to wait and see if the band makes it to a bigger G, if you like the bigger G's. I feel like this size square is more for people with smaller wrists.

It's pure nostalgia combined with modern technology... and carbon fiber. Like holy cow... what else could you want? I love that everyone else just looks at it as a cheap Casio, not realizing it's awesomeness. It's so subtle, and yet to me, and a select few, it's super special. It's a fun little watch, and one that I reach for in my collection out of pure emotion.

It is so light that you don't notice wearing it. A gorgeous all-around watch.

It's even better in person, the watch is outstanding. All my expectations have been met and exceeded. It came in the correct Box with all the tags. It was even set up with the correct time and date. Just had to add my home city and done. This is why I love Japanese watches. Thank you so much.
